We had another very nice Otto Meet this year ... even though I couldn't fly myself.

After most everyone had gone home, and while the last few were making dinner plans before the setting sun, I was playing with Little Hawk in a stiff coastal breeze at the edge of the hill.

As I played with the kite (sometimes running it down and back up the hill), I thought of Joe's gift of "wing running" to my vocabulary. I thought of Frank's generous efforts to right the ongoing wrongs. I thought of friends who've shared their gifts of flight with me, and I thought of friends who've spoken for justice.

It has been the road less traveled ... but it's the road I've been lucky to have shared with some truly great human beings. Thanks.

Interesting that the toe dragging landings were used so much in the video. Many of my landings at Dockweiler, when I don't make a running landing, start with sticking my toes in the sand and the glider begins to nose up and slow, due to my harness pulling back on the hang loop. The difference is that these guys end up standing and I end up landing on my big sand wheels, being unable to achieve a standing position after dragging my feet because the glider doesn't flair enough to bring me back upright. I wonder if the difference is that they were flying in higher wind than I'm usually flying in. This may be helping to "kite" and lift the glider with the pilot's feet in the sand. I'm going to have to play and experiment with this to see if after dragging my toes I can make a stand up finish rather than a "dodo bird" finish.

This beach site looks fantastic. I wish Dockweiler was that long.
