Hey Tad,

You sure do a lot of posting for a guy who feels his free speech has been somehow restricted!! :srofl:

P.S. A guy who FEELS his free speech has been SOMEHOW restricted?

I got news for ya. My "free" speech WAS somehow restricted. I was BANNED from a US Hawks club forum for no stated reason whatsoever - but almost certainly for raising issues about the safety of an operation its president didn't want to address. I don't think that's so goddam rolling on the floor funny. I actually see that as an exremely dangerous precedent.

Yeah, let's just start chipping away at our core principles to facilitate the growth of the movement (and it's just TAD ferchrisesake). We can start fixing minor problems after we get enough members - preferably all children who have good records of playing well with others.

What will keep the US Hawks from becoming another USHPA or HGAA?

With the way and the rate at which things are going? Absolutely nothing.

Or do you have a different take on this?

Hey Pilgrim,

Jim Rooney

2007/07/22

No, I'm not being nice. No, I do not feel the need to be nice. You're trying to convince people to be less safe. I don't want to be on the other end of the rope when someone listening to this drivel smashes in.

I've heard it a million times before from comp pilots insisting on towing with even doubled up weaklinks (some want no weaklink). I tell them the same thing I'm telling you... suck it up. You're not the only one on the line. I didn't ask to be a test pilot. I can live with your inconvenience.

Please tell me again what's wrong with the wheel? Why you keep trying to reinvent it?

The simple fact is that you're not improving the system.
You're trying to make it more convenient and trying to convince yourself that you should be towing with a stronger weaklink.

Enjoy your delusion.

2008/11/24

I've personally refused to tow a flight park owner over this very issue. I didn't want to clash, but I wasn't towing him. Yup, he wanted to tow with a doubled up weaklink. He eventually towed (behind me) with a single and sorry to disappoint any drama mongers, we're still friends. And lone gun crazy Rooney? Ten other tow pilots turned him down that day for the same reason.

Adam Parer - 2009/11/25

Due to the rough conditions weak links were breaking just about every other tow and the two tugs worked hard to eventually get everyone off the ground successfully.

Davis Straub - 2005/01/13

Tom Lanning had four launches, and two broken weaklinks and a broken base tube. He made it just outside the start circle.

That's a BIG part of the reason that, as a general rule of thumb, I DESPISE this cult of brain damaged sonsabitches.

Additionally...

Towing Aloft - 1998/01

I witnessed a tug pilot descend low over trees. His towline hit the trees and caught. His weak link broke but the bridle whipped around the towline and held it fast. The pilot was saved by the fact that the towline broke!

...virtually all the members of this cult of brain damaged sonsabitches are too stupid to understand:

The United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, Inc.
Standard Operating Procedure
12. Rating System
02. Pilot Proficiency System
10. Hang Gliding Aerotow Ratings
-B. Aero Vehicle Requirements

05. A weak link must be placed at both ends of the tow line.

While there might not be a whole lot of Dragonfly drivers that I'm gonna get too choked up about if they slam in while connected to a tree by a 250 foot length of two thousand pound Spectra towline I HAVE - very naively - tried to work USHGA and the FAA to get some of our few better than useless safety regulations complied with and enforced.

So what the hell have YOU ever done to reduce the probability of ANYONE at EITHER end of a towline getting slammed in?

Or do you think that getting choked up and helping to scatter ashes AFTER someone slams in for some stupid and easily predictable reason is way beyond the call of duty?

Don't bother replying to this one either. I never really expect idiots and cowards - especially anonymous ones - to engage in productive discussions anyway.

Tad, the SWTHG club is a separate organization with its own bylaws and its own leadership. They are both a USHPA chapter and a US Hawks Chapter. It is fortunate for us (including you) that they've CHOSEN to utilize this forum rather than their own forum or some other forum where you (and I, and others) might be completely banned. They have no obligation to use this forum, and I suspect they would not be here if they felt they could not control their own forum. Is that hard for you to understand?

As it stands, at least you can post to topics in the main forum which might be noticed by some of the SWTHG readers. You would not have that opportunity on hanggliding.org or the Oz Report. In fact, when Davis (ozreport) began hosting clubs (Sandia Soaring Association so far), I asked him if people banned from the Oz Forum would be able to post in the Sandia forum. The answer was NO. So you already have far more free speech here than if the SWTHG were to be hosted on the Oz Forum. If you disagree, please post your reply to the Oz Forum where I'll be happy to read it.

Tad,
I have been having internet trouble from July 4 to Aug 14. The Qwest tech., said as many as 3,000 errors per/min., when he checked my line. I was “Dropping Train," whatever that means.

Some of my emails and posts have been lost in cyberspace.

I sent a PM to you the other day but it didn’t show up in my draft, out box, or sent box. One PM to Sam K. did go through even though I can’t find any record of my PM being sent until he responded.

Did you receive a PM from me? If not I can try again now that I think my internet signal is steady, (I hope).

1. Under the United States Constitution a member state cannot pass a law making it illegal for someone to publish something critical of an action of that state's governor - whether or not he lives in that state and pays state or federal taxes.

2. The people in all of the United States - at the expense of staying in compliance with the US Constitution - enjoy some rights, benefits, protections afforded by the federal government.

3. So are there ANY principles and responsibilities that come with becoming a US Hawks chapter?

4. Obviously not, so when it comes time to define some who's gonna have the right to determine what - if anything - will be required?

5. So how is US Hawks gonna end up any different from USHGA and the Jack and Davis Shows in which the uniting principle is: NEVER criticize or disagree with the leadership.

6. Notice that while Kite Strings makes no pretense of being and has no goal to be anything other than a dictatorship, no one has yet been booted for being critical or even disrespectful of either (particularly one) of the two dictators. The only people (?) who've gone bye-bye have been spammers. And, for the record, this dictator welcomes criticism and disrespect with open arms - especially if it's justified. But participants better answer questions and be real careful about making up convenient facts.

That's true. But individual states can pass laws requiring you to buy car insurance (effectively paying in advance for crimes that you haven't committed). Individual states can pass laws requiring you to buy health insurance (again making you pay for a service that you may never need or want). Individual states can pass laws on gambling and prostitution and many other things that might imprison you in their state while being perfectly legal in a neighboring state. So would you rather be in a SWTHG prison or just banned from their forum?

TadEareckson wrote:2. The people in all of the United States - at the expense of staying in compliance with the US Constitution - enjoy some rights, benefits, protections afforded by the federal government.

As I pointed out above, the people of the United States can expect some uniformity, but they can expect difference as well - some of which are much more severe than being banned from a forum.

TadEareckson wrote:3. So are there ANY principles and responsibilities that come with becoming a US Hawks chapter?

At the current time, you just have to convince me that you're trying to help grow the sport of hang gliding in your region. If you can convince me that you're trying to do that, then maybe you could start your own Chapter.

TadEareckson wrote:4. Obviously not, so when it comes time to define some who's gonna have the right to determine what - if anything - will be required?

When we get enough people seriously interested, then I think we'll make those decisions. Right now we have to grow for it to matter.

TadEareckson wrote:5. So how is US Hawks gonna end up any different from USHGA and the Jack and Davis Shows in which the uniting principle is: NEVER criticize or disagree with the leadership.

You're still here aren't you? Yet you've certainly been critical of me. I think that's sufficient proof right there.

Well, the US Hawks isn't a dictatorship, and I hope it won't become one. So it's a good thing we're here!!!

Dictatorship

I see two engineer type minds debating 'constitutional' netiquette, not a dictatorship while a dictatorial police state is being hammered out right in front of your eyes. The strength of an engineer's mind is the abilty to focus on minute detail but the corresponding weakness is that narrow focus fails the vision to see the forest for the trees.

Tad, you are really pushing your luck with the insistence of talking like a street thug. Are those the only words you can come up with to convey your thoughts clearly? So much for creativity. Is that the mouth you talk out of in mixed company or in someone's house? .. I'm sorry, it does detract from your message.. I like a lot of what you say and the fact that you have the conviction to stand behind it but you take it too far with the language. There have been times that I might have chimed in with something written and instead blew it off, partially because of the negativity present. Negativity is just so.. negative.. and it tends to rub off on others if constantly exposed to it. That's why people avoid it. People want to live in happy la la land, especially pilots, and that is the way it is..

A real dictatorship is coming down your street. It's the camera mounted on a pole on the corner. It's the FDA and the EPA telling you that fluoride waste by-products are good for you and fresh live cow's milk is poison, worthy of swat team attacks on organic farms. Parents have been brainwashed to believe their children's health depends on 60 or 70 mercury laden disease filled vaccinations starting at birth and ever more throughout the rest of their immune weakened life. The food, air and water are poisoned. Pilots stare at a sky filled with persistant contrails that sink, expand and eventually cover the sky with a bland milky metalic haze and fool themselves to believe that this is normal.

Davis Straub, wakes up every day, (groundhog day) to a little pecker measuring contest and believes he is the fake John Wayne super hero "saddling up" because he has courage? Courage for what? Self satiation? Self agrandizement of nothingness? The ability to fly to goal over the bodies of dead comrades scraped off the tarmac in the interest of a child's contest?

Saddling up for a meaningless contest is not courage. Flying over dead bodies to win a contest is not strength.
A media whore selling lies is not journalism... and I digress.. The negativity rubs off on me. Tad, you and I are a lot alike even though we have some serious differences.. where you agree with Davis is the big negative for me.

Malthusian-ism, Gore-ism particularly.. I see Davis as an idiot or a conniving, fraudulent huckster, I can't decide because he is too much the coward to discuss it. You and he both worship at the satanic altar of Darwin, Galton and Malthus. Atheistic brothers wishing the death of others... it's sooo green to wipe out humanity, eh?
Hence the poison in the air food and water... you are being poisoned and you don't believe it. The polar bears and penguins are drowning... (lies)

Life giving carbon dioxide is the new poison we can tax and control so as to rid the world of "useless eaters"... Millions will die from the dictates of green profiteer hypocrites like Al Gore and the globe trotting pecker measuring hypocrite media whore Davis Straub.. Davis repeatedly posts talking points that media whores get paid to push and acts like a coward bully to control the discouse of others. I guess it's a good thing you two are atheist so you don't have to worry about burning in hell for the dictatorship you're selling. Keep taking the poison and believing the propaganda and your sleep shouldn't be too troubled.

You both should have kept your engineer's focus on flying.
Straight pins and pecker measuring contest for very old children, I can deal with.
The rest feeds my negativity.

Such a ramble.. losing signal...
Warr..
