Dockweiler RHG Diary

Honoring the rich history and bright future of gliding at Dockweiler Beach

I hope we still have a parking lot on May 23rd. One LA councilman wants to use that parking lot along with some others on the coast for homeless camping. He has a lot of opposition so I doubt that it will be done.

People have expressed concern as to why expensive beach front property, where they can't afford to live, should be turned over to homeless people to live there. ???

Just reporting on events here,
Frank

Follow George Carlin’s suggestion and let the homeless
camp out in the gulf courses.

Yesterday was a great day of flying at the 50th Anniversary of the first Otto Meet (1971). The details are in the Otto Meet topic (50th Anniversary of Otto Meet - May 23, 2021).

I had a really fun day of flying at Dockweiler today. The wind was straight West for most of the day and almost soarable for me in the Condor 225 (Thanks Frank!!).

I don't know how many flights I made, but I ran a video recorder most of the day, so I can figure it out. I'll post when I get the count.

Lots of people asked about lessons, and I highly recommended the Windsports program.

There was a very nice family (parents and 3 kids) who picnicked for the day, and they enjoyed the flying. There was another "family?" who were friendly enough, but smoked, drank alcohol, and left a mess of garbage when they left. The nice family cleaned up after themselves and began to clean up the other family's mess (what nice folks). I told them that I'd finish cleaning up when I left, and they thanked me even though it wasn't their mess. I guess these two families are what the left calls "multi-culturalism".

Here's just part of what I picked up (after the nice family had picked up a bunch already):

I reviewed the video from yesterday, and it shows 26 individual flights. I also documented 3 additional flights that I had not recorded for a total of 29 flights.

It was a very nice day. ;)

As I mentioned above, I really enjoyed the Otto meet, but I also had a great day of flying the day after the Otto Meet when USHPA refugees are able to fly at Dockweiler. Here's a video from some of my flights on May 24th, 2021:

https://youtu.be/-YrZOTQlZKk

By the way, that musical score came from the San Diego City Council video on December 7th, 2010 (over 10 years ago!!). I was downloading that particular video for another project, and I remembered that the San Diego Council videos usually started with a long instrumental lead in while the Councilmembers were getting seated. So I used that video for my sound track. I didn't know about City Clerk Maland calling out my name:

"Bob Kuczewski, Bob Kuczewski, please come forward"

until I watched the video. It was a perfect fit, so I left it in.

Thanks Frank. I am just learning to use the settings on YouTube, and I had that one wrong. It should play now.

Bob,
I really enjoy the faster-than-life views you made for us in the video you made of your day-after-Otto-Meet flight session! That view might well be used to tame some supervisory naysayers in the coming years. Thanks for all you detail cares to get such a video up for the world!
