Second Sunday at Torrey - December 2022

It was a great hang gliding day at Torrey today, but the site was closed. It's not clear why it was closed. It's possible that the winds were too strong for paragliding or that the intermittent rains were not safe for paragliding. There was no one there to say. The office was just locked without a pilot or glider in sight.

It's particularly sad because this is the kind of blustery winter day that makes for great hang gliding.

Good point!!

By the way, on days like today, you can launch at Torrey and go pretty much straight up. The opening hang gliding scene in this video (immediately following the sea gulls) shows me launching my Falcon at Torrey with John on my nose wires under similar conditions:

Here's a cropped frame of my launch from that video:

That was a GREAT flying day.   :D

Nice history, Bob! Seagulls introducing an elevator Bob! Thanks, John, for wire work!

My first-of-day waking thoughts are treasured by at least me:
Today I opened my eyes from sleep with:
"Walk; jump into air; fly Torrey and then head off to land much elsewhere using as needed a limited e-prop."

I did many walk, jump into the air and glides landings at Torrey without playing any sign-up game; my take-offs and landings and flights were not noticed because my wings were tiny. F.A.A. did not bother me. Maybe we can have 100 people walk, launch into air, have a short glide to the turf, all at once in public protest against the ill-thought park steal. All at once launch; take photo of all the pilots in the air.

On some Second Sunday:
Have some 20 or more pilots wear some small wings.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/1259493425 ... ngel-wings
All launch at once and land after gliding flight nearly at the same time.
Public-park-play! Wing loading will be high. Sink rate will be high. L/D will be low.
Flight duration will be short. Federal airspace will be entered. Terra firma will be
left behind for a small while. Let the silly park stealers call the police: "People are flying
and flying and flying and flying! Oh my, people are piloting their wings into federal airspace!"
