Your Candidate Statement makes a number of strong points and I think you've got an up hill battle on your hands. But the best of luck to you. If (or when!) you get back in the door, don't try to tackle too many advanced projects at once. Get something easier done first and then go from there. And finding and establishing allies never hurt. Come off as a rabble-rouser and you won't get very far.

If you were running in my Region I'd give you my vote.

Actually, the really really good news is that Dan is the other candidate. I believe Dan is basically an honest guy, and I think he'd like to see the same things I'd like to see. So I think the pilots will win regardless of who gets chosen.

On the other hand, you may remember Dan from the HGAA fiasco. I think he put his faith in some of the wrong people, and we didn't get a very good result. I think Dan really wanted to see the HGAA grow, and I think he may now realize that he sided with the people who wanted to kill the HGAA rather than grow it.

But overall, I'm optimistic that Dan may be a good candidate, and I'm considering withdrawing my candidacy to support him if he's willing to commit to a few basic platform issues (like open voting by the USHPA Board and support for the Torrey Hawks). It turns out that Dan is Torrey Hawk #16 which means he's been supporting our efforts at Torrey for a long time. So I do have a reason to be optimistic. (I need an emoticon for "crossed fingers").

I hope this thread is not your campaign. Meet and greet is what is needed.

The Little Hawk is great campaign material. What about taking it to Dockweiler or Kagel?

Thanks Bill!!!

Here's my candidate statement that USHPA just sent out to Region 3 pilots:

Bob Kuczewski wrote:Hello Fellow Pilots,

I've decided to cast my vote for Dan DeWeese. I remain disappointed that Dan has declined to state his position on important issues like open voting by the USHPA Board ( see my list of issues at http://ushawks.org/USHPA2012 ). But in the bigger picture, I think it's more important to our sports that we replace the "insiders" at USHPA with new leaders like Dan. And since Directors are elected for 2 year terms, I plan to cast my own vote for Dan this year so I'll be available to run against Rob Sporrer in 2013.

So if you'd like 2 of your Region 3 Directors to be:

      Rob Sporrer and Bob Kuczewski

then vote for me over Dan DeWeese this year. But if you'd like to see your Region 3 Directors eventually become:

      Dan DeWeese and Bob Kuczewski

then vote for Dan this year and look for my name on your 2013 ballot. : )

Happy Voting!!!

I think Dan will be a better Director than Bill Helliwell was, and in the bigger picture it's better to have Dan in USHPA and myself running against Rob Sporrer next year. I'm looking toward what's best in the long run.

I just got the great news, Dan DeWeese is our newest Region 3 Director!!!

Yaaaayyyy!!!

Here's the email message I just got from Mark Forbes:

There may be a couple of paper ballots to add in yet, but they're not going to change the outcome so I wanted to let you know the results right away.

From the electronic side of the election, Dan wins the election in R3 this term, 144 to 75, with one write-in again this year for Shilo the dog.

Congrats, Dan! I look forward to meeting you at the BOD meeting March 14-16 in Colorado Springs. Your term of office starts January 1, and the office will be sending you some paperwork to sign and some introductory info. If you have questions, feel free to ask me or Rich Hass (or anybody else) and we'll be happy to help you out. I remember it took me a while to figure out how things work on a board of directors, and we'll be doing some basic training for new directors at the spring BOD the day before the meeting starts. You should plan to be there for it.

BobK, I gotta give you points for tenacity, even though I felt somewhat insulted by your characterizations of me on some of the forums. It's your choice how to present yourself, but I don't think you're winning any hearts and minds with your current tactics. But you'll do what you think best, and so will I. Thanks for participating.

We had a quorum in all the other uncontested regions, and each of those candidates was re-elected easily. I'll send out a formal announcement in a few days, once we've made sure we have all the paper ballots counted (there's just a few) and have a chance to look over the results.

Thanks to both of you!

Mark G. Forbes
USHPA elections committee chairman

And here's my response to Mark and Dan:

YYYYYAAAAYYYYYY!!! Congratulations Director Dan!!!

That worked out just right. We've got Dan instead of Bill Helliwell, and I'm still free to run against Rob Sporrer next year. : )

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!!!!!

I'm optimistic that Dan will be much better than Bill Helliwell, and this avoids any potential conflict between my position within the US Hawks and as a USHPA Director. And I'm still free to run against Rob Sporrer next year.    ;)

So everything has worked out just fine.
