So good to have you Tommy flying here in the Hawkville!

Yes, the bungee! Occasionally at Dockweiler, Greblo gives some students a one-man one-line bungee launch off the 18 ft bump! Come-back V-bungee by friends and family!

In our current realm there was football-field bungee of HG ... just to demonstrate up and down ...low and slow.

A more generalized expression: "SafeStopping" is the root of a forum space where posts may also be made.
There is a tie with this topic thread. When someone joins the group at
 http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/SafeStopping/
then he or she will receive a link to a small file that has a growing list of concern items (all may help add to that list). In that file is the URL of this topic thread in USHawks forum.

Safe-Splat concept not found elsewhere, but probably such has been explored:

Instead of having helmet increasing the mass that gets whipped about,
have impact forces sent to shoulders, hip, ankles in such a manner
that the legs and neck and head get tensed instead of compressed.
Change compression of impact into a scene that does not crush the neck or head.

Leg at tension--if only I knew---I would still be 6' 2" instead of 5' 7" :srofl:
edit:
But what a new idea. No compression of the neck and less chance of head trauma.

Too late for either one of those :shh:

You might guess, it did involve Safe-Splat, since I'm here.

In my case it was in the form of large Pecan trees along the Frio River. :lolno

After falling >300' wrapped up in the crumpled glider, the landing was a no stepper

I unhooked and sat down. 1978 at a local Tx site.

There go I but by Grace.

But the worst of the neck/head trauma was much later on the job site. Some a-hole allowed multiple 2x12x18' to topple over. I was working in another group ~17feet away. Safe-splat in this case, if any, was lots of hair 8-) pulled back. That was a double whammy. The other side of my head hit concrete `

Muscle memory :!:

Bungee cord (sometimes spelled: bungie or bungy)
may store energy; uncontrolled release of the stored energy may cause damage, injury, or death.
Exploring bungee cord in Safe-Splat arena is in an infancy, although bungee cords have a distinct history in aviation landing assemblies and also in arrestors.
As bungee cords have been used in launching hang gliders, gliders, and sailplanes, one my reverse view and explore landing with various bungee cord and bungee net configurations either on board or off board the hang glider. Ratchet-capture of stretched bungee cords may be one of the ways of capturing stored energy of splats (to be explored). Recall that a "line" may be compound: part hard inelastic and part elastic; the elastic segment of a "line" may be at any prescribed station along the line's geometry.

Snap-back of a loaded bungee cord is a realm of special safety caution. Is the cord with a safety sleeve or not? Guard eyes and face.
Here linked is a workshop where the installer is NOT USING EYE AND FACE GUARDS WHILE LOADING WHAT COULD BE AN EXPLOSIVE RELEASE OF ENERGY UPON SOME UNSEEN FRACTURE.

Notice how bungee jumping saves people from splats (most of the time :!: , not always  )

Recent very interesting project also reminds one of the plowing parts of structures that invite Safe-Splat attention:
Testing Derwitzer No. 3

Short video:

Thanks to ARP for news loop on this neat historical project. :)
Longer 11 minute video:

The pointy plowing parts are a sure path to hard splats that are not safe.
