US Hawks Hang Gliding Assn. Chapter #4
Re: Flying possibilities Jan 18-19We're at it again Sam,
RGSA, Robin is getting together plans for this weekend. Matt H. has to work. I have family obligations until about noon Sunday. Mike, last we talked, is thinking strongly about flying this weekend. Robin will be calling Lee. I’ll have a better idea on my availability for flying Saturday night for Sunday. Mike and I were talking about a friendly spot landing contest as opposed to a vicious spot landing contest.
Re: Flying possibilities18-19th.RGSA,
Just before 10 pm the RGSA weather websites are still looking like La Luz flying for Saturday and Dry Canyon for Sunday.
Re: Flying possibilitiesSunday flying at Dry Canyon wasn't bad. I had 25 minutes in buoyant air and a decent landing in Cox Field. My two drivers, Madison and Moe, were pretty impressed. Jan Zscenderlein guided me in to my landing. It was a fine and pleasant day. (Could have used a few more pilots, though!)

Re: Flying possibilitiesRGSA,
I just called Mike E. and let him know that the wind hasn’t yet given us a definite location for our club meeting after flying on Saturday January 25, 2014. It seems to me that Mother Nature is leaning toward Alamogordo for flying but we will have to wait and see. If the wind favors Magdalena Rim, west of Las Cruces, NM I still will be holding two bedrooms in reserve for Bob K. and Mike E. should they show up. Someone can throw a bag on the couch or floor in the living room or plug in a heater in a vehicle. Camping in the enclosed back yard would work. Whatever! If the meeting is at my house we could BBQ. I’ll let someone else offer up plans for a meeting in Alamogordo, NM. EDIT PS Thing to discuss at the meeting? Might I suggest, a recommendation from George W. about the person to work through in the City of Alamogordo. Asking the City of Alamogordo to locate the tallest trees in the SE corner of the landing zone and having the shortest trees in the southwest corner of the landing zone. Also relocating the windsock. (Or would the Frisbee Golf participants like it where it is now for their own sport?) Becoming a US Hawks Chapter. (Free) Moving our internet forum to the US Hawks Hang Gliding Association. (Free.) Keeping our eyes open for a used Falcon for RGSA club use. Towing somewhere at Santa Teresa Airport.
Re: Flying possibilitiesHello RGSA Members!!!
I really hope your club will become one of our growing list of US Hawks Chapters. One of the goals of the US Hawks is to unite pilots and clubs over a broader geographic area so we can all benefit from the experiences of more pilots. You've already seen some of that synergy on this forum with interactions between pilots from all over the US. I think you have a great club with great members, and I would really value you joining us. In fact, I value it so much, that I'll be making the drive from San Diego tomorrow so I'll be able to answer any of your questions in person at Saturday's meeting. I'll be leaving San Diego early Friday morning, and I expect to be on the road all day. So if you'd like to give me a call to ask any questions before the meeting, please feel free to call me at 858-204-7499 any time. I look forward to meeting all of you in person!! Re: Flying possibilitiesThe plan is to meet in the LZ in Alamogordo, NM at 10:30 am tomorrow Saturday Jan 25th. We will hold a meeting during supper time. Most likely at Margo’s Mexican food restaurant Just north of Walmart.
Re: Flying possibilitiesI was the site guide for Gene C. in this video taken in 2010 but Gene taught me how it’s done.
We were the only two to show up and it was great flying.
Re: Flying possibilities 2-1-14RGSA,
Tomorrow early Robin H., Gary B., possibly Madison S. and I will head for the Mesquite exit between Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX (USA) for some more playing, wing running, and bunny hops. I’ll have a camera along in case a miracle happens like getting off the ground any farther than a person can jump. Which would be log-able as a flight. We take anything. ![]()
Re: Flying possibilitiesHave fun, and pass my congratulations along to Gary and Madison for their progress!!!
Also be sure they know about the pictures on the forum. It would be great to have them sign in and tell about their experiences first hand!! ![]() Join a National Hang Gliding Organization: US Hawks at ushawks.org
