Re: Flying possibilitiesI second the thanks - good report! (By the way, Mike Reedy now lives in Las Cruces.) I'm glad we went out this Sunday - because next weekend looks like a blowout. It could bring some very welcome rain, however. I'd say we need a tempest right now more than we do extra airtime.

Re: Flying possibilitiesBill,
Is that Chris Chaney in the first row? Southwest Texas Hang Gliders

Re: Flying possibilities
Chris Chaney? If you mean the middle guy in the front row> He does resemble Chris. But the person pictured looks much younger, more intelligent, and better looking than Chris. Let’s ask Robin. He has a very good memory. ![]()
Re: Flying possibilitiesYes, that's Chris Chaney, in my recollection. And the devilishly handsome individual next to him is - ahem - myself...
Conditions look good for flight at the Rim tomorrow. We should be set up and ready to fly at noon, as far as I can tell from the forecasts. Let's leave Las Cruces at 10:00 am. -Robin
Re: Flying possibilitiesTen o'clock it is.

Re: Flying possibilitiesMAGDALENA RIM - MARCH 4TH
Bill and I reached the launch at the Rim about noon. We parked the glider cart and then set up my U2-160 for a hang gliding flight. Ah, if only I were biwingual, with a paraglider! The winds were southwest, about 10-15 mph - perfect for a PG, a little light for a hang glider. I launched anyway, about 1:45, and quickly had a sled ride down to the landing zone. I landed perfectly, I'm proud to say, and Bill showed up with the truck long before I had the glider in the bag. Conditions all day were overcast, but the air was buoyant and I had no trouble clearing the power lines at the LZ. It was great to visit with Bill over a sandwich at the Subway afterwards. The flying was uneventful, but the camaraderie was outstanding. We'll try the Rim again soon - but not if the winds are howling, or, as I learned, too light. -Robin
Re: Flying possibilities 3/20/14RGSA/ Hawks Vice President Jan Zschenderlien (Irish I think) getting ready to launch at Magdalena Rim Northwest of Las Cruces New Mexico USA on March twentieth 2014. I will follow by launching my Sport 2 155’ next. Thanks to Robin and daughter Keighley Hastings for hauling my glider and equipment up on the portage cart.
At the same time I was performing my latest cardio stress test at age 65 simply by walking up. I’m posting so that means I passed the test. Hadley Robinson (PG) also launched ahead of me while I was waiting to see the results of my cardio test. Keighley had been breathing hard while pushing the portage cart as I wheezed along side trying to keep pace of the Sherpa up hill speed racers. I couldn’t decide what my wheezing reminded me of but I was vacillating between the sound of a four barrel Holley carburetor with the air filter off and a death rattle. I wanted desperately to take a drink but I was sure I would inhale enough water to kill myself if I tried. If walking up to launch was a job that I was employed at, I’d be bitching. On my next post I’ll try my luck posting a video of Jan Z. launching.
