You're right Ernie, they are out of control because USHPA has done nothing to balance the Soaring Council. The Soaring Council has a total of 7 representatives supposedly representing the 4 sports of HG, PG, RC, and SP (Sailplanes). The RC clubs have 3 of those 7 representatives. The sports of hang gliding and paragliding only have a combined representation of 2 (effectively 2 for PG and NONE for HG). In the spring of 2010 (back when I was a Director), I proposed and got passed a resolution of the USHPA board to direct our Soaring Council representative (Ken Baier) to "work" to increase our representation to the level of the RC clubs. Ken has done as close to nothing as he could get away with these past 4 years. I believe this has been done because USHPA supports the paragliding school at Torrey Pines more than USHPA supports the pilots at Torrey Pines.

Many of the RC pilots themselves are great folks. I got my RC "rating" at Torrey with the help of many of them. But some of their leaders have made a "deal with the devil" siding with the concessionaire against hang gliding pilots in return for more leniency for RC pilots.

Absolutely right!!

Again, Absolutely right!!

NOTE TO ANY RC PILOTS READING THIS TOPIC:

I am not personally against RC pilots flying at Torrey, and I don't think the Eagle is either. But your leadership has been playing a game with the Soaring Council by keeping the Torrey Hawks from being a member of that Council. This creates the kind of animosity that is not helpful for harmony between our sports. I urge all RC pilots to work within their clubs to fix this.

A Message to the AMA & Torrey Glider Port Management ((( Mafia Gangsters / Dope Dealers )))

For many Years now, I Have had No major issue with most of the RC Pilots that Frequently Use the Glider Port or Anyone Else .
These Issue's Have been started By YOU GUYS insisting On Control and Unsustainable Rules, targeting My self and Other Hang & Para pilots Right's to Fly .... Not Cool ~ Do You Want to call a trues ? Start getting Along ?

Quit ( illegally ) grounding pilots ~
Stop the intimidation & threats ~
Stop the racketeering and cornering of our sport ~
Restore our hang gliding Area ~
Give us back our container, storage & shop, You STOLE IT & gave to one messed up pilot ~
Take your control & wallet out of our sport ~
Reasonable rule's & prices , Its a Joke WE have to Pay YOU in the 1st Place and Listen to Your Crap ~
Stop Discrimination Of Pilots, Allowing Others To Learn ~
Allow other to do tandem & instruct at fare Reasonable Rates or Complacently FREE like the sport use to be ~
This One's Tough ~ Practice Safety ~ LOL ~ NOT FUNNY ~

Finally ~ In My Opinion , YOU SHOULD LOOSE YOUR LEASE & GO TO JAIL ~ Make's Me Wonder what the LAW thinks ?

Eagle,
I share your concerns about being hit with an RC model sailplane.
I had a “Midair,” with one at South Face Point of the Mountain UT. So did one of the hang gliding instructors. The instructor was hit in the head and my strike was at the nose plate. The fuselage went over the top of my sail and the wing and rubber bands slid down my left nose wires and stopped at the left side of the control bar. It left a green mark on top of my sail that would not come out.

The instructor needed stitches and new glasses. He was temporarily blinded but landed without further injury.
(Eagle if you want Bob to move this post somewhere else it is okay with me.)
