On April 13th of this year (2014), I witnessed this near-panic scene while preparing to photograph one of our hang glider pilots launching:

Does that orange cone look like a radio?

The Torrey concessionaire can't even keep radios working for their own students who are supposed to be under direct radio supervision and instruction!!!!

Does this seem like a reliable way to clear the air for helicopter rescues?

Furthermore, do these photo suggest why Robin Marien might have filed a restraining order to keep me from taking pictures at Torrey Pines?

I think the orange cone is more in line with "the most natural form of flight" than high-tech and expensive radio gear.
Heck, you can pick up an orange cone at any AT&T truck. What's not to love?

The most natural form of braking, the horizontal analog of braking a collapsed paraglider, will be discussed at a later time...
