NO TANDEM??

1. Have some PG/HG basic Inst. been doing tandems illegally?
2. Is this supposed to make me want to get the tandem?
3. Has Groupon joy riders spurred a surge in TAND rating [/size]

All of the above?

USHPA News
New Tandem Instructor Requirements
At the October 2014 USHPA Board of Directors meeting, the board
discussed a proposal to reinstate a requirement where tandem instructors
must also hold a basic or advanced instructor appointment. Tandem
instructors who are not already basic or advanced instructors will have until
March 31, 2016 to meet the new requirement. USHPA will be developing an
implementation plan for discussion and final approval at the Spring Board
of Directors meeting on March 13-14, 2015 in Golden, CO
There are several reasons why the board has decided to act. First and
foremost is to ensure compliance with both the letter and spirit of the
provisions of USHPA's FAA tandem exemption (#4721) that allow tandems
"for training purposes".

We should be able to look at the RD voting record and find out who voted to discontinue this FAA requirement. :srofl:

(#4721) that allow tandems
"for training purposes".
How will anyone differentiate between Joy rides and training purposes especially at Torrey Pines?
What percent of paying customers continue until they have up graded to a annual U$hPA membership for at least one year after their short membership for training?
At what point will the line be drawn to indicate that a fraud is being perpetrated and that "for training purposes,"
is either being adhered to or not?
Should anyone shown to be using #4721 (The FAA tandem exemption) beyond it's intended purpose be stripped of their instructor's rating?
What is the USHPA's position on this?

They each had the backbone to stand behind their actions. Whether you agree with the expulsion or not, you know exactly who made that decision. You can go back meeting after meeting ... for 10 years!!!

Since it doesn't cover any identifying info, this is my plan for my new card. A mailing label, color printer and a bit of trimming and I can put anything I want on the front of my card.

Don't you think the "nanosecond before midair collision" image on the left adds more drama?

How innocently it substantiates the already existing drama. :shh: :shifty:

Phil, can you fix my card? 8-)

Some pilots would not want a PG on their HG-lifestyle card. And not have that "P-" note.
Cards for HG ...
Time for a HGUS card ...
