In 2008, I defeated the incumbent David Jebb as Regional Director in Region 3. The final vote count (announced on December 16th, 2008) was 122 to 98, and within 4 days of the loss David Jebb had turned control of the Torrey Pines Gliderport over to his "right hand man" Robin Marien. This victory was the beginning of a long process of restoring control of Torrey Pines to the pilots who fly at that site.

Of course, there are many people in the flying community who want to say that David Jebb was leaving Torrey Pines anyway and that his loss in the election had nothing to do with his immediate departure after his defeat. They want to say that the timing of the defeat and subsequent departure was just a "coincidence". So for them, I'd like to re-publish David Jebb's last candidate statement which was emailed by USHPA on December 10th, 2008. Note that the deadline for getting this statement to USHPA was December 7th, 2008. So these were David Jebb's own words which he could have changed any time up until December 7th, 2008. Please read this statement and ask yourself if this sounds like someone who was planning to abandon Torrey Pines less than 2 weeks later if he had won the election:

Thanks to each of you for taking the time to select your representative as the Region Three Director for the United States Hangliding and Paragliding Association. You are about to make an important decision that will in some respect have impact on your flying community. I have been involved as your director for the past four years in decisions that relate to flying sites, pilot qualifications, the magazine and training issues. The Regional Director is a voluntary position. My primary concern is pilot safety and developing strategies which will help ensure the continuation of our sports.

I have been involved in hangliding and paragliding for the past twenty years and know that my experience and training will continue to be an asset to our organization, but only if you see it the same way. I hope that I may count on your support.

David Jebb's last words in that statement were "I hope that I may count on your support". Does that sound like someone who was planning to resign immediately after the election? Or was he lying to everyone in Region 3 when he said that his experience will "continue to be an asset to our organization" while he was secretly planning to resign after winning? Of course not. Jebb wanted to win that election and he wanted to stay in control of Torrey Pines. But he was so embarrassed by his loss that he left within a week of being defeated. So anyone who says that David Jebb didn't want to win that election is either calling David Jebb a liar (in his final statement) or is lying themselves.

In 2008, the pilots of Region 3 chose a new Director for a new direction. It was their choice (not Jebb's) that began the long slow change at Torrey that continues to this day.

Thanks for pointing this out. I’m so clueless when it comes to politics that I failed to notice the discrepancy in words and deeds.

After four years of "jebb" at the helm of District 3, He was soundly defeated. 122 to 98.

So starting on Dec 16 2008 , while Bob took the reins of District 3, the powers to be at ..... u.. .a , did not want any changes. So the rest is history.
And now for the rest of the story.........

With an Aug. 3rd. Trial date, there is time to make a strong case, and possibly
Team up with others to defeat the golliath/clyclops, on a much bigger issue.
