Prior minutes: This was the first meeting so there were no prior minutes to review.Old Business: This was the first meeting so there was no old business to discuss.New Business:Establishment of Officers:
Sam Kellner was nominated and unanimously approved as President
Terry Morse was nominated and unanimously approved as Vice President
Bob Kuczewski was nominated and unanimously approved as Secretary
It was decided that the club would not have a treasurer at this time.
Future Club Meetings:
A suggestion was made to hold the club's regular meetings on the First Friday of every month at 6pm. This suggestion was unanimously approved.
A suggestion was made to seek approval from the local library to hold the club's meetings there. This suggestion was unanimously approved.
Public Outreach / Promotion:
A suggestion was made to begin various public outreach efforts to increase the involvement of the local community in the sport of hang gliding. Additional suggestions included regular and special events like setting up hang gliders at public locations and having hang glider participation in local parades.
USHPA Chapter Status:
A suggestion was made to begin work to become a USHPA Chapter. This would involve creating and approving a set of bylaws and an official membership list. Bob Kuczewski volunteered to work on this based on his prior experience in founding the Torrey Hawks. There was some discussion about the possible ramifications of the new USHPA Chapter SOP changes. It was not clear how to best proceed, and Bob also volunteered to look into how to best approach this problem. Ken made a suggestion that the club's bylaws explicitly state that the SW Texas Hang Gliders Club does not discriminate based on wing type.
US Hawks Chapter Status:
A suggestion was made to become a Chapter of the new US Hawks Hang Gliding Association. It was noted that the US Hawks is already providing a forum for the SW Texas Club. This suggestion was unanimously approved.
Membership Drive:
A suggestion was made to begin contacting other local pilots to increase membership. All members of the club were encouraged to contact the pilots that they knew in the greater SW Texas area.
