Alpha 210 available for sale

Postby JoeF » Tue Oct 16, 2018 1:03 pm

Wills Wing: Alpha 210 was new to Frank Colver, USHGA #7, sail signed. Barely used at Dockweiler. Joe Faust, USHGA #5 bought it from Frank. I'll sign next to Frank's name soon. Only short-time use Dockweiler only mini flights. Excellent condition. Kept fully snug out of weather. Excellent bag condition. Truck transportation involved 100% length cushioned platform with an additional cover over bag. Tender care was given.
Basebar has surface scratches from wheel action.

New from dealer: suggested retail: $3775.
Almost-new condition: You may have it at your pickup by appointment near Cal State Los Angeles for $2000. :!: :!: :!:

Why am I selling it? I just donated to charity my truck that carried the Alpha. I'll not be having a HG-transporting car or truck for the remainder of my life. I have decided to put every ounce of my HG energy into building and flying a city-busable airframed hang glider of pack length of 5 ft.

"Hey, look, guys! Who's that getting off the bus? Is that Joe?"
"Hey, Joe! Where ya goin' with that anemometer in your hand?"

Joe, when you get that thing built, I'll put some hang glider racks on my Smart Car and we'll go over to Dockweiler.     :srofl:

Joe, can you cannibalize the Alpha to build your 5 foot packed glider or do you need the money from its sale to purchase other material for the 5' glider?

I was thinking along those same lines Frank.

It seems a lot easier to simply figure out how to splice the tubes on the existing Alpha than to build it all from scratch.

Joe, you might want to contact Wills Wing about their thoughts. They've probably spent decades considering more compact packing options. My Falcon, for example packs down into a relatively small (7 foot) box. That's pretty close to bussable already.

Maybe you can work with the LA Transit folks to see if they can fit that extra 2 feet, and you'd be good to go. We could loan each other our gliders any time!!

Also, my Falcon is pretty old and already short-packable (with the box and everything). It might be a better candidate for chopping up than that nice new Alpha!!

Thanks, Frank, Bob, and Rick, and any readers! Fun and good ideas.

1.There will be a Wing-5 series: Wing 5A, Wing 5B, ..., Wing 5Z, as time permits.
2. An aim is to be busable in a nearly non-ostentatious sense. Bulky mitigates against the deal. Threatening tallness (above 5 ft) makes bus drivers nervous and other passengers nervous. So, keep the pack 5 ft or less and have it end up non-bulky and easily handled. Clean and pleasant coloring for the visual pack. Smiles are wanted, not nervousness. Special permissions are to be avoided. The pack is to be welcomed on many bus lines and even when the bus may be packed with people and their bags, sacks, narrow shopping wheeled devices.
3. The Alpha 210 is in excellent condition and worthy of staying unscathed by my cutting explorations. Round-tube when not telescoping packs to bulky relative to my aims.
4. There are funds available for building wings in the Wing-5 series.
5. In the Wing-5 series will be instances of varied technologies and materials. Iterations within a technology will be built and tested.
6. When I think a version won't work, I'll be looking for test pilots; email me.

Thanks, Rick; CF will be found in some Wing 5 iterations following a firming of a design iteration. Your supply was new to me; I've been looking at Dragon Plate for similar. But your referenced supply looks to have a wide variety of options.
