Oz Report Front Page Error

Postby wingspan33 » Sun Jan 04, 2015 11:40 am

As of now it seems to be the second story down in the "Other Recent News" items. The title is "Person dies in hang glider accident at Chesney Vale near Benalla". Unfortunately, I can't find anything in the linked story that says that a hang glider pilot was involved. Sadly it seems that a (71? year old) sail plane pilot is the one who was fatally injured. The included picture clearly shows wreckage of a sail plane/glider.

So much for checking the accuracy of, and facts behind, a reported story.

I suppose it's "good" to read about a "first" hang gliding fatality of the year - that actually isn't a hang gliding fatality. :eh:

But then, it's also never good news when a pilot dies.

. . . unless . . . they are in the act of strafing you!*

The accident article on the Oz Report are automated. Scare has some sort of searching script going on the looks for incidents and automatically posts them. So articles that are misreported on end up making it look like Davis or Scare posted an obviously inaccurate story. We've seen this the the local paper all the time, they say a hang glider crash resulted in the death of a pilot. It's always a paraglider pilot.

Interesting to know that (the lights are on but) nobody's home over at the OZ Report. I doubt that's the case in connection  with booting someone off their forum.

As far as the articles go, I saw no indication that "hang glider" was used in either the titles or the text. :?:

This is absolutely true in San Diego, and I have to wonder how the press gets this wrong so consistently.

Imagine yourself as a reporter hearing about a cliff rescue at Torrey Pines. Who would you call to get more information?
