Short Pack, has anyone actually used this Great Idea?

Postby Chris McKeon » Fri Oct 06, 2023 1:20 pm

Disclaimer, Apology: OK Bob I am going to in this Post. I will use a Foul Four-Letter Word, "SINK". While the WordSink is not Generally considered a Cuss Word. When One is using the Word SINK when talking about Flying. SINK is a Dirty Foul Word. So, Bob if You are offended, then go ahead Ban ME.

Ok My Question is this; Has anyone actually used this great concept, idea for what it must have been developed? That would be when a Pilot was flying Cross Country and because of excessive Sink. Well because of Sink, a Pilot had to short pack their Glider, then pack their Glider say a Mile or More from the nearest road Has anyone actually used this Great Design?

"SHORT PACKING, TELL ME MORE, TELL ME MORE!"

i want to say once again that I think that this Short tps://ushawks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f ... 25adbdabb8 Packing of Ones Glider sounds just so cool to Me. But I also know that where I believe having the ability to Short Pack One's Glider would make a Major contribution to when A Pilot experienced that Foul, Filthy Four-letter Cuss Word, "SINK" thus having to Out-Land. The ability to shorten One's Glider in order to get it Back to where You launched from would be great.

Ok I have received Push-Back from My mentioning Cross Country Flying. I know, that Flying Cross Country is not at all Popular down there in San Diego. But some of You Fly XC Correct? I am just waiting to hear about this Short - PACK deal being used.

Hello Chris,

There has been no "Push-Back" that I know of. You asked me (by text message) why I thought there wasn't a greater response to your topic and I told you what I thought. That's not "Push-Back".

Also, I believe there are a number of pilots who enjoy cross country flying in San Diego. I personally like to see people safely enjoying all forms of hang gliding (ridge soaring, cross country, aerobatics, etc.). But for me, I'm just happy being in the air. I don't feel the need to scare myself by pushing any flight envelopes. Just flying a hang glider - anywhere - is enough for me. My text messages have been my attempt to share that perspective with you.

OK Bob; now look. I am a Pilot just as You are a pilot. We both take to the sky, thus escaping this as John calls it, Our Gravity secured Penitentiary, granted all of us will be reinterned in this Gravity secured penitentiary that We all reside in. But We are truly blessed by being able to engage in {FREE FLIGHT}. Ok I want to state that omn a Given Day at a Given launch. Two Pilots, one who choose to Fly an XC route, where the other Pilot decides to stay Flying around His local site. Well on that Day, with Both Pilots having launched from the same Launch. the Pilot wo decided to venture off no more risk than the Pilot who chose to Fly around from where He or She launched from. Granted by the numbers of incidents of Mid-Airs Collisions that Pilots incurred while Flying at their local sites up here in Northern California, Lake McClure, Ed Levin, Misson ridge to name a Few. Compared to Pilots that had experienced Mid - Air Collisions while Flying XC were not really comparable. Because Here in Northern California to My knowledge there has never been a Collision due to a Mid - Air collision. I Myself never got into a situation where a Mid - Air was Probable, or imminent. Flying XC as being "Pushing the Envelope"? Hardly.

OK I feel that I should Mention that I Knew of One pilot who Died Flying XC that was Flying at the King Mountain HG Comp in the Early Nineties. That Pilot was Hawkeye.

OK I will ask a specific Question that I hope will be read by a Sandiego Pilot or who knows maybe two or More Pilots. Also, My Question need not be answered by a Sandiego Pilot. Heck this Idea, the ability to short pack Ones Glider has tremendous appeal. OK: what i want to ask as a Specific Question is; Has anyone used this Great Idea of being able to Short Pack ones Glider so that A Pilot or Ten have used this system to aid in egressing their Glider from some Field somewhere after Flying Cross Country; Ok Bob I am about to use a Four Foal, four letter Cuss Word} and having their CEOSS COUNTRY FKIGHT ENDING DUE TO 'sinking out'. OK Bob I did it, even though it is filthy Four Leiter Cuss Word. And of course, that Word is. . .. "SINK". So, I will understand Bob if You feel the need to Ban Me. OK Bob go ahead Ban Me, Ban Away!

OK so look, I realize that My Posts, yes My posts that have not been responded to must seem like a general waste of time and a Bother.

But You all need to know that after Twenty Years of thoroughly enjoying My Self Flying, I had a really Bad Day. I read the correspond stance of Pilots who are currently Pursuing Their Dreams of Free-Flight. Heck that is really what I am doing. I am dreaming about when I will Fly once again.

At this point and Time, I must be reasonable and realistic. I mean heck it has been Thirteen Years since My Ill Fatted Flight that almost killed Me. But Close is no Cigar. So just remember that I like all of You began My assentation up into the Air, I started with a Dream. I do not want My Dream of Free-Flight to not be Crushed.

Please excuse My displaying a sense of shock. But I am sort of surprised that this Short Pack Concept seems to have Died on the Vine so to speak. I mean the inspiration for this I imagine must have been born by a Cros Country Pilot who saw a need. That need is when a Pilot Flying XC is forced to land, ureses this Short-Pack system so as to be able so that the Pilot can easily pack up His glider and Self Pack it to the nearest rd. Then being Short-Packed the Glider could be transported by any number of Vehicules.

OK please cut Me some Slack. But I think that this concept is just so Cool.

"Short Packing "How about some video? Give Me more, Give Me More!

OK I know that I must come across as like a What I am, A Broken down, Busted Up Predator Pilot. Yes, that is what I am. I have gone through a Pounding to Die For. But Thirteen Years ago, my attending Doctors Prognosis's were Proven Wrong. I did not Die. No, I went on to live, and rebuild Myself. Guys do You remember how You thought about Flying long Before You Flew? Well, I do. The feeling down in New Zealand, when with a Moyes Nar's strapped to My Back, as I for the First time ever. As I strode forward, and My Harness Straps became taught. as I was lifted into the Air for the first time ever. I remember that Moment Vividly. I so look forward to having a Moment like that again. So just wait. I have been waiting for Thirteen Years.

GREAT FLIGHTS:

Ok what is a great Flight? is it a Flight where a Pilot gets Higher than anyone ever has? Or fly's Further than anyone ever has.? Or any other notable adventure in the Air. No for Me My GREATEST FLIGHT since My Flying Began Back in 1990, will be the next time that I leave the ground, and take Flight. It matters not if I am only airborne For a Couple seconds. My Flight will be an Epic Flight.

OK so I will not be Banned by Bob. I should say something that pertains to this Post. When John comes up here, I will ask Him about the Possibility of short packing a Predator.

Ok, I first put up this Post, Two weeks ago. I am just trying to find out if anyone has used this great idea, this great Concept for what must have been one of the Primary reasons for its Development. Yes, if the gestation for being able to Short-Pack Ones Glider must have been due to some Pilot who Sunk Out, had to land somewhere other than Goal. Then Problem number Two. To be able to Pack Your Glider to the nearest Road. This idea is just so cool, I love it!
Even if the reason that this concept, Short Packing One's Glider was noy born due to a Pilot sinking out while Flying Cross Country, it should have been the reason that the Idea was hatched, it should have been!
Note to Bob:

Ok Bob once again I have used a Word. II used a four-letter Cuss word to describe a horrible thing that happens to Pilots Every Day. The Word is "Sink" Ok I know that by Typing that Filthy Four-letter Cuss Word That I will have prompted You to take action, thus causing You to ban Me. Bob. Ban away I deserve it.

I fully Realize that I must come across as a Bore, or worse. I mean here I am not even Flying. Yes, I think about Flying constantly. So, when I came across this Short Pack Deal. I got Me to thinking that in the Future. Even though there are Issues with My Predator that possibility. The Predators design might be ill suited to this Short Packing. But what a cool Idea!
