Hello Registered Users of the US Hawks Forum,
Today is 2 months since I launched the US Hawks (the original launch date was August 13th, 2010). I'm writing to solicit your thoughts on building a better community of pilots on the US Hawks forum than we have on other forums in the sport. Here are some of my current ideas:
1. Provide integrated forums for local chapters that are part of the national forum's web site. This provides a single location for both local and national discussions. Members only need to log in once to participate in all discussions ... everywhere.
2. Provide a more balanced perspective where pilots are not banned based on the "personalities" of forum moderators. This has happened to various pilots on both the Oz Report and on hanggliding.org, and it has robbed those forums of the full range of viewpoints that they might otherwise have. This will be a difficult task since all moderators have human failings. I am hoping that the US Hawks community will be helpful in overcoming that "single point of failure" on our forum, and I welcome any feedback from our members any time and on any topic.
3. Provide an alternative national organization that might eventually be able to supply insurance to its members and its clubs. This is a much more long-term goal, and I think the HGAA lost much of its original momentum because they were trying to attain this goal too quickly. In contrast, I'd like the US Hawks to lay down a solid foundation for the organization before feeling any pressure to provide insurance or other services that require a larger membership.
So, what ideas do you have for the US Hawks? Please write back, or feel free to post them to this topic:
Happy Two Month Birthday to the US Hawks!!
