Steve Corbin was in sharp party mode Sunday at Otto Meet #45. He gave out some Zing Wing gliders (patent here) and showed some of us how he installs an off-center hinging to effect a a widening of form upon center folding; the wing tips do not fold on each other evenly but form a wider form that helps stabilize the wing when the folded wing is slung to the skies with its stretch rubber band launcher.
More: Steve has a vision of growing an Otto Lilienthal tree of hang gliders that would not have the 1908 W. Simon triangle control frame (or John Worth A-frames), but use other means for the pilot; I hope he will chime in and tell us more.

My goal, with the one he gave me, will be to watch it "sky out" and disappear in an Anza-Borrego Desert thermal. But hopefully this will be after many shorter flights. I'd not want to lose it on the first flight.
There must be some stories behind what to me appears to be a confused market regarding the use of the trade names of "Zing Wings" and "Sling Wings". Steve? Steven Karl Corbin. Functional patent has passed into public domain apparently; April 28, 1988, for filing; 20 years has passed. Term of patent. John Rundle? Others? Steve Corbin has done some neat charity work with his gliders, toy and full-sized HGs. At the Otto Meet #45 Steve Corbin and I listened and viewed a mini-photo history presentation direct from Otto Meet #45 attending SeedWings manufacturer Bob Trampenau. =========================== Note on the Sling Wing elastics: The little elastics might be of different chemicals. Some will get tired and need replacing. Tiny plastic elastics may need to be doubled up until good closer action is obtain. Trimming adventures instruct.

Nathan Stone, a young boy of pilot Gene and Sandy Stone, Pharr TX, launched a Styrofoam glider made from an egg carton top from the fire tower on Chelan Butte. He told us as we returned to the Butte that he tuned it with a slight turn in it and that he waited for a thermal to launch it. "It went up out of sight," he said. The fire tower girl on duty nodded her head [yes] when I looked to her for confirmation. Nathan had put his name, address, and phone number on it and where it was launched from. That is as much of the story as I remember. (Late nineties maybe --- before they stopped staffing the fire tower.)

Scott Wise brought a Comet from New York for the Otto 45. Designer of the Comet, a VERY key historic HG, Roy Haggard, assisted Sunday with the tensioning step in the high wind; what a neat historic moment!
Scott is on the board of directors of US Hawks. He wore the same hat literally at Otto Meet 44 last year. Thanks, Scott, for the many things you have been doing for recreational hang gliding
Cyndia Zumpft Klein posted Her selection reminded me of her Otto Meet #45 elevator ride. She was so excited about the flight! She jumped up and down in joy when she returned to Earth terra firma.
