Re: Short Pack, has anyone actually used this Great Idea?

OK, I apologize, For I am merely a Broken Predator Pilot. So, all of You can dismiss My TBI damaged Brain for writing these Perseverant Al Born thoughts regarding My complemental Posts regarding this, In My Opinion. This short Packing concept that I find it hard to believe that there has not been an XC Pilot by now not to have used it. So, if there is someone who has used this Short Packing of Glider to do what should have been the inspiration for its inception, that would be a Pilot having to Lug His or Her Glider to the Nearest road after sinking out and being forced to do that Filthy, Vulgar thing that must be done Primarily due to Poor Piloting. That is to Land.

Well, I am Quite surprised.

I mean no one has responded to this Post where I asked about Pilots using this great concept. I mean I hope to see where a Pilot or Pilots used this idea of being able to short-pack their Gliders to good use. Everything has good aspects to it, and some Bad aspects. I just am wanting to read about using this concept.

If this concept has died on the Vine, So to Speak. I would like to know Why it has not worked.

In hang gliding, "short packed" varies from 6 ft to longer. Such has been used for special storage, for special shipping, and for "fliking" (fly and hike). Short packing is not a concept only; manufacturers have offered various "short pack" lengths for some hang gliders.

Differently is "happy packing" or packing at 5 ft or less in length. This was perhaps once embodied in an early 1970s hang glider that had special challenges. Happy packing to 5-ft or less in length is being given some attention in another topic thread in our forum. Manufacturers have not yet shown decisive interest in such happy packing. Some home builders are exploration possible solutions to the happy packing challenge. Stories of flights are not yet available. Stories of actual full built-out HGs in the "happy pack" size are not yet surfacing. Those interested in such "happy packing" designs are invited to advance the field and share notes in the topic thread HERE :?:

I recall Heading off Flying an XC flite Being say even not that far away from Launch. Say I landed Oh say only Fifty Miles from Mount Diablo. No Driver, after landing in some Field. Now What? I have had this happen in the Past. When a Local pulled up in say a Car. I was offered a Ride. But They asked Me about My Predator. I just said; "Well if You will just give Me ride back to launch, I will give You Fifty dollars for Gas. After My Predator was Broken Down, and secured with a Cable and lock that I would carry for situations such as this one's like this So after I cabled MY Predator to a Tree, and locked the Lock. We went driving back to Diablo.

I think about My Friend KM who once said after Flying XC. Well, He had a retrieval that had its share of Hiccup's. KM said after He had been Picked up and Driven Back to Lake McClure, KM said about Flying Cross Country; "It is after You have Flown XC, That the Adventure Begins". Boy, do I miss KM.

Fot those of You Who got to know KM, Good for You. To those of You Who never gt to know KM, that is a Shame.

I am more than a little surprised to see how what appears to Me to be just so cool an idea. That is the ability to Short Pack One's Glider. I think about a Pilot Who wants to be able to, all by Him or Herself take their Hang Glider on say a Bus, or another form of transportation, I think about if it were possible for Me to short Pack My Predator. Then I could Drive to My Local site less a: "DRIVER" then Fly My Glider say from Mount Diablo. I could Fly XC, land, then short pack My Predator. Then Call up some Transportation, say an Uber, a Taxi. Or I could do what Mickey Does, then thumb a ride. But no matter what form of Transportation I would Use. I would be doing a Say of XC Flying all by Myself.

When John is up here this Spring. See; John needs to perform an IRAN on My Predator, I am going to talk to Him about if My Predator could be Short Packed.
