PK I have a Problem. For I already Mailed an application so that when I get down to San Diego. That Way I will be an Legal Eagle regarding My Flying a super Short Flights. But Make no Question: If and When I Fly, My Flight will be the greatest little Bunny Hope that I or Anyone has ever made! But no doubt due to the Fact that I Sustained a TBI 14 Years ago I have lost the Permission to Fly Paper that I already got. Ok so what I ask because My Printer is not working is to have someone Download and Print an application Form. Then Mail it to Me; Chris McKeon 55 Silvia Drive Cazadero California 95421. Thanks so Much Chris McKeon 925-497-1059.

Whoever visits Dockweiler during the week of Otto Lilienthal's birthday: enjoy!

Chris, it's not clear from your posts, and I am sorry if you already know this, but ...

Dockweiler is in Los Angeles, and NOT in San Diego.

Joe, you will be profoundly missed at Dockweiler Beach.      :(

But if there is something with higher priority than the Otto Meet, then I know it must be very important to you.

I am sure that you will be thinking of us on that day. Please know that we will be thinking of you.

Oh Yea, I so want to Fly just as it says in the Bible: For They will Mount up with Wings as Eagles. I saw Why not. I think about doing something as Basic and Mundane as to Type using Both My Eight Hand and My Left Hand. To think that My Fathers second Wife could type a Hundred and Twenty-One Words a Minnite. I doubt that currently I would be hard pressed to type faster than Sixty Words a Minute.

Bob Kuczewski wrote:Are there any plans to celebrate Otto’s birthday at Dockweiler in 2024?

This year, Otto’s Birthday (May 23, 2024) falls on a Thursday. In past years some folks have celebrated on either his actual birthday or on the nearest weekend day. This has been further complicated by the flight restrictions requiring either a USHPA membership (Wednesday through Sunday) or a signed Dockweiler waiver (Monday and Tuesday).

Does anyone have any plans to celebrate this year? And if so, what dates?

Hi Chris,

As with the original meet, there is no "central planning" organization for the Otto Meet. One group might celebrate on May 23rd (Otto's actual birthday), others might celebrate on the nearest weekend, and others might celebrate on the nearest free flight (non-USHPA) date. It's really up to individuals and groups to decide which day (or days) they want to celebrate.

In the past, we have generally (by consensus) celebrated on the actual date. But since non-USHPA members cannot always fly on the actual dates (5 out of 7 times), then non-USHPA members will often celebrate twice (once flying and once not flying). It's really up to each person.

For the last two years (2022 and 2023) Otto's actual birthday fell on Mondays or Tuesdays, so that made it easy for everyone to be able to fly on those actual days. But this year it falls on a Thursday, and that means that only USHPA members can fly (another divisive disservice that USHPA has done to our sport).

Also, this year has not seen a groundswell of interest (possibly because of the USHPA issue), and I think that's why there hasn't been a consensus. Given the lack of consensus, I think I may attend on Otto's actual birthday (Thursday) even though I can't fly on that day. I would have gone today (Tuesday) and flown, but I've had other pressing commitments.

In your case, and given the time it will take you to travel here, I was expecting that you would want to stay for a few days at least. I was personally hoping to adapt my schedule to be there when you made your first flight on whatever day that might have been. The choice of days is up to you.

I hope that helps.
