Hello to the forum!

I'm a visiting pilot from Arizona, and I just wanted to thank Glenn, Doug, Wayne and Bob of the Torrey Hawks for their help with my first flight and first top landing at Torrey Pines. I'm glad to see (and join) a club working to keep hang gliding alive at such a great and historic site. I had a great flight, and thought ya'll might like to see the video:

If any of you find yourselves in Arizona, here's an example of the kind of flying we have to offer:

Best regards,

WOW!!

Of course I love to see hang gliding footage at Torrey, but the flight from Mingus to Meteor Crater was spectacular!!!!

    - 67 miles in 4.75 hours
    - 17,999 feet at multiple points in the flight
    - Spectacular views of the red cliffs above Sedona
    - Mormon Lake, Ashurst Lake
    - Aerial views of Meteor Crater
    - All capped off with a textbook landing

Great videos Greg ... and some really great flying!!!

Thanks for posting these ... and Welcome to the US Hawks!!!

Congrats Greg, on your Torrey experience   Mingus has been on my list for many years, hope to make it someday.

Thanks for supporting the effort to save HG at Torrey

Hey thanks Bob, and thanks for introducing yourself in the LZ. I am really impressed with your dedication to the Torrey Hawks. I have heard of sites that have lost HG privileges due to apathy from pilots and it's just great to see you guys promoting HG's at Torrey. Really great job and thanks for the welcome!

Hi Sam, and thanks for the reply. You guys have such a spectacular place to fly, and a lot cooler than in AZ!! If you head to AZ just ping me and I'll be glad to orient you and host you at any of our sites.
best regards,
Greg

Sam lives in Texas, so I'm not sure how much cooler it is there than in Arizona!! ;)

But this brings up a good point ... the US Hawks is a National Hang Gliding Association. Our goal is to support the sport of hang gliding throughout the United States. Our forum (this forum) has both national sections and local sections. By combining both in one forum, we can build a better network of pilots to support hang gliding both locally and nationally. That's part of our goal and our vision. So local clubs can get national visibility because their club forums are subforums in a national forum. So if you search the US Hawks, you're also searching all of our club forums at the same time. I think this is what USHPA should be doing, and we're pioneering it right here on the US Hawks!!

The sport of hang gliding is in danger, and hang gliding pilots everywhere need to come together to save it. I thank everyone who signs up for the US Hawks and posts anything because that will help us build the strong network of pilots we're going to need to save the sport.

So here's a big THANKS to everyone who chimes in on any of our topics!!! You're making the difference!!

Hey Greg,
I commented on your Youtube video at Youtube but wanted to say again here that your XC from Mingus Mountain Arizona to the crater was great.
I changed my plans and will wait for the crowd to thin out at Mingus 4th of July and am now planning to show up after the holiday weekend.
Keep those videos coming on the US Hawks. Thanks again for the great video.
Bill C.
Ps Wow I had a tough run with spell checker trying to spell crater correctly.
