UCSD Outreach - June 30th, 2013

I brought along "Little Hawk" and one of John Heiney's awsome photo albums for "show and tell".
School was out, so we only had about a dozen people stop by including this father/daughter pair who posed for a photo with Little Hawk:
I like to watch people's reactions when they first see Little Hawk. Some folks look at it as if it's the last thing they'd ever want to do. But others see it, and it awakens their flight dream. That was the case with this fellow:
We started with an imaginary flight ... high above the cliffs at Torrey Pines:
Then I showed him how we pull in to gain speed, let it out to slow down, pull our weight right to turn right and left to turn left:
Then it was time for the harness and a discussion on the importance of hooking in:
Legs and hips right for a right turn ...
Legs and hips left for a left turn ...
Look Ma, no hands!!!
It was a nice little introduction to the sport, and we might eventually add another hang glider pilot to our ranks someday.
