Maybe ... maybe not.

The entire site is scheduled to be restored to last night's status.

So this topic might disappear.

I started this topic as a way to see when the restore actually ran. So anything posted in the short term might disappear any second ....

I think we're OK for now. I've gotten a number of email messages and phone calls about the site going down, and I really want to thank everyone who's contacted me. That's the spirit of ownership that I want people to feel in this site. That's why we're working toward forming a Boad of Directors with a Mission Statement and eventually ownership of site by that organization.

I've replied a bunch of times to individual inquiries, and so I'll just quote this recent response to Rick:

Thanks Rick.

I was in a full panic from Sunday night until Monday afternoon. Our Forum has a mechanism to send out mass emailings, and I've used it a number of times in the past to send to our group of "Approved Users" (people who've responded to my original welcome message after they've registered). That group has about 200+ members. This time, I accidentally sent it to the group of "Registered Users" which includes anyone who's ever registered. That group has about 1300 members in it, and that crosses the 1000 email limit of the hosting service. I wasn't aware of the 1000 email limit, but the site was immediately shut down - no questions asked. It took me from Sunday night until Monday afternoon to finally convince the hosting service that I wasn't "spamming" and to get them to reactivate the web site. : (

Sorry about the inconvenience.

Bob

That's a lesson learned, and I will be very very careful about which group I click on in the future.

But I want to finish where I started. The response from our members and Board members highlights the way we should be thinking of the US Hawks. I'd like it to eventually be a shared ownership by all of us who love and value the sport of hang gliding. I'd like this organization to be what we might have hoped USHGA would be. Those who share in that dream are welcomed, and I hope we can work together to make it a reality.

Thanks to everyone who's joined, everyone who's posted, and mostly thanks to the members (past, present, and future) of our Board. :salute:
