Hang Gliding Spectrum
The hang gliding universe (HGU) may be only partially grasped by various means. No means captures the fullness of the HGU; however, partial capture of HGU may be useful to some people. Perhaps the most important sector of HGU is one's personal hang gliding realm (PHGR). Neither the HGU nor one's PHGR is static; at least time is having its effect on the whole and the personal part. How one comes to understand and live out one's PHGR is also an evolving aspect. This topic thread explores various ways of seeing HGU and PHGR. And in the flow, appreciation for others' PHGR could be part of the payoff. People vary in their interests, talents, experiences, choices, assets, goals, and environments.
Any poster is invited to propose or describe ways of organizing HGU or PHGR. Different perspectives will generate a positive fertile garden that may well enlighten others. I will be putting up some of my ways of grasping HGU and my PHGR. There is no one right way of organizing HGU. Simply, some ways will seem more useful to some people. The uniqueness of persons and their experiences and text flow guarantees that views won't be identical among pilots who enter HGU; such provides a never-ending invitation to listen and learn from others; just what is different about their PHGR from one's own?
HGU holds people doing things with hang gliders. One core thing done is the formation of a physical gliding system with a person or thing coupled with a hang glider forming a hang gliding system. This suggests to me a way to organize HGU. Classify hang gliding systems (HGSs) and then at each hang gliding system allow a branching of aspects potentially actionable. In such tool there would be classes of hang gliders and an aspect option set. What people do with a particular hang gliding system (HGS) could be seen as one aspect in the aspect option set (AOS). So far: HGU holds HGSs and AOS. Each PHGR would have some play from HGSs and AOS.
HGSs is a big class that could be organized by various schemes. Maybe by size, cost, purpose, material, glide ratio, color, time of description, designer, users, weight, strength, span, area, popularity, visibility, existential format, longevity, ease of use, etc. Each scheme would be capturing parts of the HGU potentially of interest to some person; each scheme would be missing some parts of HGU that may be of more interest to some other people at another time and place. And HGU holds physical hang gliders and hang gliders that are apparently existing just in mental dimensions or digital dimensions. Mental hang gliders may relate to historical, imaginative, or creative hang gliders; perhaps one's pet vision of a to-be-built-one-day hang glider is a mental hang glider of paramount importance for someone living in HGU. The hang gliders in digital format in simulators may reign high in the life of a certain pilot. Poetic hang gliders in poems may be a source of emotions that found the exciting life of some pilot. The hang gliders that show up during sleep dreams are part of HGU. One need not invest oneself in each and every potential HGS or aspect from AOS; there is too much for even for a 1000 lives! HGU is huge; PHGRs are smaller than the HGU; PHGRs are proper subsets of HGU; one cannot live comprehensive expression of HGU; choices and resultants ever posit PHGRs that are essentially tiny portions of HGU; but tiny is still important. There is reason to believe that high awe could be a valid response over anyone's PHGR, especially if one could see the richness living in any particular PHGR; such was the core assumption behind the Otto Membership as Low & Slow attempted to hear the enthusiasm deep in any participant's path in HGU. Each self was respected as a source for a unique hang gliding experience; and thus Self-Soar Association. S-SA is flying about the U.S. Hawks to breath in the special PHGRs that are being expressed in recreational hang gliding (RHG).
So, a spectrum of HGSs and an AOS are to be expressed. After some pause, I will work on those two flows. Meanwhile, others may play with the topic of "Hang Gliding Spectrum" in their own way. Or others may begin work on HGs and AOS. Or example with their own personal PHGR.
