Various terms may be found for small struts that assist masts and beams and HG leading-edge tubes from bending, buckling, ...: wing posts, deflexors, deflectors, spreaders, negative wing posts, positive wing posts, spreaders, stayed struts, stand-offs, outside wing posts, inside wing posts, shrouds, ... The struts are often based on the tube and extend generally perpendicular to the boom (but may be set at other angles, especially sometimes when adjustment is wanted via angle changing of the strut mounting angle). Various tradeoffs are faced when using such devices: drag, lower mast mass, costs, other methods to achieve results, ... This topic thread invites historical studies, current studies, careful physics on the matter, drag analysis, rigging challenges, error analysis, and more about such devices. What is liked about them; what is not liked about them? Safety matters? Part specifications? Experiences? Terms involved; spelling, presence in plans, form mentions, ...? Aerodynamics results? Specifications for high-end and low-end deflectors, bend resisters, deflexors, mast struts, spreaders, ...? How helpful might use of such devices be? How hurtful? What challenges are being faced by the devices? Single deflector? Double deflector? Triple deflector? Staying the position of the devices? What lines, wires, strings? What material and specs for the strut? Special fittings? Anchor points? Multiple struts on serving one beam; multiple points along the beam? Disk rather than narrow beam? ??? Variable positioning of such devices? Active or passive? Variable geometry active or passive via such device? Distinctions?
