This topic invites research and discussion over the 1962 article in January of the Argosy magazine.
Invited: text of the article. Images of the article for study. Discussion over terms, etc. What was involved in the article? What could be revealed by a careful study of the article?
At the moment, I've only this clip that uses the term "Gluepot gliders"

That image reminds me of the holding done by the 1895 hang glider experimenting guy Czesław Tański

Does anyone have the full Argosy article? I am confident Ken has a copy. Anyone else? Someone is selling the issue on eBay for $15 US right now.

Gustave Whitehead in first decade of 1900s had already firmed in patent teaching that battened flexible wing hang gliders could use weight-shift control from pilot being on hung seat, even though he was not the first; it is just that his disclosure was a neat firm teaching that would put all such formally into public domain.
Public domain of the four-boom flexible wing hang glider with all sorts of undercarriages and sizes and speeds and applications including hang gliding.
Scores of patents on hang gliders.
More than 72 years of flow of various hang gliders, including the 1908 cable-stayed A-frame for control of weight-shift with hung pilot from battened sail simple hang glider, etc, much more.
Ryan Reporter and other mags following the Rogallo Revolution ... Flex Wing matters accelerating since NASA called Francis Rogallo to play a bigger role in the late 1950s, etc.
Tony Prentice, boy 13, designed and built his own flexible-wing hang glider from kiting traditions aside from NASA spread.
Barry Hill Palmer happening.
Paresev happening, poised to fly in a month; already being built.
Several contracts had completed concerning the hang glider wing of four-boom sailing.
Soaring Society of America held a clique of hang glider buffs.
John Worth happening with the four-boom hang glider with A-frame involved undier viewing by Francis Rogallo directly
Igor Bensen in early 1950s again deployed the single-point hang combined with A-frame control for kite hang glider
Millions of people had been imbued with hang gliding arts throughout the world. Modelers were informed. Kiters were informed. Aqua-ski-kiters of many sorts were informed. Employees of related companies were informed about hang gliding. Sons and daughters of the earlier historical bubbles of hang gliding were adults with their children. James Hobson in the communications TV business was being touched by all such; he had not yet announced to EAA of his own hang glider project, but would soon into 1962 for a splash in EAA magazine and on national TV. Also later would be Mike Burns starting to use the public domain tech, no global invention needed.

So, the Argosy article came after Francis Rogallo and others were communicating hang gliding models, images, tech.
The author of the article in Argosy was not comprehensive in covering the scene, but what was covered and what might be discovered in a careful study of the article?
When one or more of us get the article text in hand, an analysis could begin.
