The exponential impactor Otto Meet of May 23, 1971, had already front page in Los Angeles Times back in May of 1971. Russell queried National Geographic and the result was a yes for the Feb. 1972 issue of National Geographic.
In the meet were influences from shares of Otto Lilienthal, Octave Chanute, Francis Rogallo, NASA, Barry Hill Palmer, Richard Miller, Bruce Carmichael, Irv Culver, Taras Kiceniuk, Jr., Jack Lambie, Joe Faust, Lloyd Licher, Art Bean, John Joseph Montgomery, Carl S.Bates, Waldo Waterman, Volmer Jensen, Jim Foreman, James Hobson, Cecil E. Craigo, Peter F. Girard, John Worth, Lawrence Hargrave, Domina C. Jalbert, ... and many others that may be discussed about this article in National Geographic. Noteworthy absences: JD, BB, BM, DK. BB was potential in proximity but was not influential in the meet or craft involved; he spawned from the NASA-Burns-JD-BM tow-kite flow, which flow later would reap large benefits from the influence of the Otto Meet in Newport City where onlooker teen Neil Larson would later move to effect a park stone commemorating the Otto Meet of 1971 with a help of a large team including stone-giver Bob Kuczewski of the US Hawks Hang Gliding Association.

The centerfold picture will show a green kite line towing a NASA-Palmer-Miller-Foreman-Taras Kiceniuk inspired hang glider. That kite line was provided by Joe Faust; the line is a symbol of his HG publishing ways and means.
