Preamble: HG designing may be touched by the vast HPA experience. HPA has had significant interface with HG. The flow into future HG may see more of the same. Frames. Super care over knowing the weather conditions for HPA. Materials.

Every human at every point in history has an opportunity to choose courage over cowardice. Look around and you will find that opportunity in your own time.

Very cool video. It's much more "smooth" than the wind-up ornithopter I mentioned above!!

I'd like to see a diagram of how the "flapping" was actuated.

Bob,

For those that are technically capable here is some information of interest:- https://tspace.library.utoronto.ca/bits ... thesis.pdf

As far as I can see the flapping motion is produced by the pilot with a rowing motion rather than pedalling like most other HPAs.

Aerodynamically, flapping wings produce effects that should improve the wings efficiency. Rotating large propellers at slow speed must add more drag to an HPA with what is a very limited power supply available. It may seem cranky to flap wings but if efficiencies can made and utilised then who knows maybe nature got it right in the first place.

Replace batteries with pedaling?

My son Marty and I had the great joy of watching the Gossamer Condor fly, in person, at Shafter airport. Paul MacCready apologized for not letting us give it a try which of course stunned me. I said if you offered I would gratefully refuse. I couldn't imagine that he would even bring that up but that's the great guy he was.

The flight we watched, with Bryan Allen piloting, was the last flight it made before it was dismantled and shipped to the Smithsonian.

I should find and scan the photos I took that morning.
