United resolution of HG challenges

-----------------one-by-one------------
becomes proud of being a HG pilot;
a core test of such pride will be when
the HG community en masse
rights the wrong done to fellow hang
glider pilot Bob Kuczewski; the insurance/org
question won't be properly resolved by
hearts that bypass the injustice served
by the USHPA to a fellow pilot.

THANKS JOE. new

Thanks Joe.

Human nature has always been susceptible to the formation of lynch mobs and injustice. That's been a pattern from the imprisonment of Galileo, to the Salem Witch Trials, to the lynching of African Americans in the deep south.

There have always been those like Bille who jump on the lynch mob bandwagon and fuel the injustice.

But likewise, there have always been those like yourself with the coolheadedness to look objectively at injustice and to speak out against it.

In the long haul, history discovers which ones to glorify ... and which ones to condemn.

YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT ? new

You honestly believe that history will remember , and glorify you ?

You believe that an injustice has bin done to you ?

You must think i'm a mindless sheep, in a grass pasture ; ready to follow you for

the food Ya bring to the table ?

lets recap the BK record to date :

*You got booted off the Two-Main forms , in the USA ; that could best be used as a vehicle, to solidify
your ideas, to your want to be followers .

**You were a elected Regional director for the USHPA ; and you got Booted off
that position, because you could not get along with others that didn't hold your
same beliefs .

***And, ((didn't)) you actually get Booted out of the USHGA, as a member in Good standing ?

That's a question ; do you hold a current USHPA card ?

WHY would i wanna follow , someone like YOU ?

Why would i wanna follow someone , that appears to NOT be able , to get along

with other humans ?

IN SOME CASES , YES !! new

I just dropped my AAA auto and Home ins-co ,and went to Farmers.

They gave me the same coverage, for 1/2 the price; and I saved

near $1K a year total for both . That's a LOT ; AAA was pure Greed !

The question you really want to ask is :

"does the USHPA need fixing" ?

Any company that can be run more efficiently, (is good); that constitutes

the same as being Fixed.

I Have a Major Problem , with Bob K , being the one doing the Fixing.

My problem with him , has everything to do with my previous post !!

Bob is a Great guy , when viewed as a pilot , and telling stories. He

lent me his glider one day, for an evening flight at Torry ; it was

Awesome ! Unfortunately , he doesn't have the skills to be a leader ;should

I recap my reasons why ?

COMPREHENSION new

Bille, you wrote to me:

You honestly believe that history will remember , and glorify you ?

My post above contained a total of 6 sentences (if you count "Thanks Joe" as a sentence). Please pretend this is a reading comprehension test and tell us who I said history would glorify. I'll give you a hint ... it wasn't me.

The Big Question ...

Bille is attempting to divert our focus from the big question we're facing right now: How should we structure the self insurance of our sports? USHPA would like everyone to contribute to a pool of money that they will control through their continued monopoly. I am advocating for an independent pool of money that will support competition in the HG and PG marketplace. I would like to see an independent insurance pool that makes its decisions based on actual safety records of pilots and not based on political vendettas.

If you agree that it's time separate insurance from politics, then please join me in spreading the word that we can make the RRG independent of USHPA's control. Don't accept anything else. The time is now to make this happen.

HAY -- Joe : "do you still fly hang gliders ; or do Ya just talk about, how

we should run our own lives" ? You use to be an Awesome guy ; what happened , because

it appears, that Ya got kinda cynical. You talk about how Dangerous a PG is ,(non stop)

and how anyone that does that activity , Should Stop .

You talk about how screwed-up the USHPA is . If you want to change things, then

make an impression on your friends and pilots ; then go run for a Regional Director spot,

and do change from the inside. Bob-K did that , (then got BOOTED_OUT) because of

personality conflict with other Directors. Perhaps you can do better ?

BOB HAS SOME INTERESTING IDEAS. new

Why personal attacks (Bille) - find something better to do with you time. Please stop.

Bob has some interesting ideas.

Bob, I think a rather large obstacle to your insurance idea is the pilot population just wants to fly and doesn't care if they pay USHPA a $100 a year or $75.00 a year to a pooled insurance policy. Look at the response here. 3 people commented.

Another issue would be the cost involved with setting up, buying in, and managing all this. Most of these flying clubs are small and run by volunteers.

I commend you for taking the time to voice your opinion.

Regarding the USHPA in general, trying to replace, or provide an organization that is comparable to USHPA is a tall order. I think trying to change USHPA might be a better use of your resources.

I personnaly dont care if USHPA provides/administers the insurance or some other entity does. The dollar amount as far as premiums seems incedental at this point in time. I suspect most others have a similar opinion.

HI DON, new

Hi Don,

Thanks for the comments.

I tend to agree that it's not a matter of money to many people (although it is to some).

For me, the big issues are free market competition, choice of provider, responsible actions by leaders, and fairness to members. I believe USHPA's monopoly is hurting our sports in all of those areas. I don't know if USHPA was at fault in any of the other incidents, but I KNOW that they refused to take action at Torrey. Was the Torrey lawsuit the straw that broke the insurance camel's back? Given the timing (suit settled this spring/summer) I would say "yes". If USHPA showed any indication of changing their ways, I might not be so down on them controlling the RRG. But they haven't.

I apologize to Joe because I helped steer his topic toward the RRG discussion and away from his call to right the wrongs done to me by USHPA's expulsion. Of course I'd like to have that fixed, and it's painful to not be able to fly at the many sites where I've flown for over 10 years. But the window for action with the RRG is very small. If we're going to do something, it has to start happening very soon.

READ WHAT YOU LIKE AND SKIP WHAT YOU DON'T new

Gentlemen,

I've been a member of the Crestline club for most of the last 10 years. Some years I've done a lot of flying there. Other years not so much.

During all of that time, I don't think there's been a single complaint about my flying.

I've also pitched in (in very small ways) to help out when I could. When I was Regional Director I listened to the concerns of all members and did my best to find fair solutions to problems.

Joe Faust started this topic because he felt that an injustice had been done. I agree with him. An injustice has been done, and my ability to fly at your site has been severely limited by an organization that dictates the terms of use at your site. This topic is largely about discussing mechanisms for Crestline to regain the authority to make its own decisions about which pilots deserve to fly ... and which don't.

I can certainly understand that there might be differences of opinion on some of these topics, but if you don't like reading something, just don't read it. Is that too hard for anyone to do?

Let me be clear that my posts are directed only toward those who welcome these discussions. If you don't, then please, for the sake of everyone, just don't read ... and certainly don't post.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

BACK TO THE DISCUSSION ... new

Our USHPA insurance pool is created with member's money. I have contributed to that pool for over 10 years and many of you have as well. Most of us have never made a claim against that pool (including myself) but we've paid anyway to cover those who have made claims. We've contributed to that pool year after year after year because it has allowed us - individually and collectively - to fly.

This past spring USHPA held a "hearing" where the Directors voted to expel me. I was charged with a long list of "crimes" but I was not allowed to bring a single witness to prove them false. I was also not given direct citations in the USHPA rules (bylaws and SOPs) where any of my supposed "crimes" (like starting the US Hawks) were forbidden. I was also not allowed to bring representation. Instead, I had to face the entire Board alone - even though they had unfettered access to their own legal representation. I also have not gotten any transcript of the testimony or the discussion leading to my expulsion.

Now some people reading this don't care about justice and they make their decisions based entirely on who they like and who they don't. They're the ones trying to shut down this conversation. But I believe there are others in this club who can set aside their personal likes and dislikes to really ask whether justice has been done or not. If you're one of those people, then Joe's original post was meant for you. It's your voice that Joe was trying to bring forth when he started this topic, and I hope you'll join in.

Thanks,
Bob Kuczewski

What don't you understand Bob K? I don't know you personally but I've witnessed how you acted around others and that's what I base my opinion of you on!

I would say that 99.9 % of CSS members are happy with USHPA and don't have a personal vendetta against them and really do not want to hear your opinion.

Sooooo Please go post your opinion and your agenda on YOUR Site!!

Bob,

Injustices happen all the time. We live in a flawed world with flawed people. Based on your comments of what occurred, perhaps a libel case or persuing other civil damages would be worth looking into. Or just let it all go and move on.

Based on your coments, I think I would walk away and figure all this is just what sometimes happens in life.

Perhaps take up sailplane flying or something similar. Different group of people, different mindsets, in my opinion.

Life is too short and there are too many other things that are a better use of your resources than this, in my opinion again.

AT CSS Forum, the president of CSS confirmed:
Jeff Boehler replied on Tue, 11/10/2015 - 13:22

NOPE!
I support the BOD's decision.
It stands.
We were elected to do what's best for the majority of members
To many complaints from members and to many lines crossed.

Were moving on.

Fly Safe
!
==================================
==================================
It is bet that the "majority" was not consulted ... of the members. The deletions and egregious fill ins under others' signatures took place in a few days. Was a vote made to get that "majority"? Hmmm????? And WHAT LINES WERE CROSSED? Don't wimp away from defining precisely the "lines" behind your breath! Speak up! Let the lines be said and discussed, if any. What is best for the majority of members is a touch responsibility; is it best to block critical thinking? Is it best to let ride personal attacks with untenables? Is it best to let the national org stomp unjustly on even one member? Is it best for the majority of members to produce and let ride a Forum that cannot now be trusted? Is it best to shy away from HG issues that affect safety?

"Too many complaints .." Hmm? How careful was the metering of complaints? How many complaints form "too many" ? :?: So, the tool seems to be: let complainer rule, not critical thinking? Not fairness? Not justice? Not fulfilling the mandate of "forum"? Voting is an option, also!!! Someone's complaint antenna was sensitive; someone has more power than others. Not much is open book; trust goes out the window.

And "moving on." to where? To a forum that blocks key hang gliding topics that affect safety? Who knows what the backroom deleters will be deleting; we won't see what is deleted! And who knows who is writing what when some backroom editors are changing the words of others' in mid conversation and leaving what appears to be the author. With Jeff's confirmation, there seems to be a confirmation that text at CSS Forum cannot now be trusted for fidelity to authors, to progress of discussion, to relevancy of issues. If such all stands as Jeff seems to confirm, then the CSS Forum will be a simplistic shallow playground for a tiny corner of hang gliding ... not worthy of a world-pattern setter for the needs of hang gliding. Follow the PG powers to uncover some of the new emptying pattern. It is time for a national org dedicated to solo recreational hang gliding. It is time to have several new San Bernardino HG clubs with hundreds of LZs using the premise immunity for land owners. Hollowing out the CSS Forum ... removing a trust of solid content ... should startle the hang gliding world in USA and abroad. The CSS is locked into a PG marriage by so many ties! The momentum will play out its course; we are now over 1,395 known paraglider deaths ... and counting. One may no longer trust the current CSS Forum to hold meaningful content on many important issues; and be wimpy when even discussing the flight reports, as one's content may too easily be declared "inappropriate" and deleted without any open jury. Perhaps one day CSS Forum will find a way back to stellar forum character that may be trusted by authors. Long-term support won't count either; presto, click: blocked. False "majority" claims will do; forget the integrity and worth of persons involved in such blocking; forget the last critical thinking; just go over the cliff without a wing with the sense of unproven herd forces. "moving on" means what? To the next time when more blocking will be executed? Consider, pres Jeff, something different: Smartly enter critical thinking over important HG matters without personal attacks; let all perspectives stay with space; participate in a topic when sincerely interested in such topic; stay away from the topic if not interested sincerely. The most direct and simple thing is to trust open communications; be not afraid of perspectives that differ from one's own; consider deeply mastering others' perspectives and THEN make personal choices to be shared. Shunting the vitality brings not much. Go for the gold and diamond of open sticky sharing of ideas in HG. CSS Forum, you still have a chance to enter the new future that will distinguish PG from HG both in orgs and practice and law; keeping the confusion only delays the inevitable; CSS Forum, you got locked into U$hPa and are having a tough time seeing a different future. Sit on a narrow vanilla forum habit and practice to prolong the pain. Differently, blossom with robust tackling of HG issues; dare to. CSS and USHGPA will bleed with the P and the injustice done to even one HG person. No one is safe from an org that unjustly smashes a member. Work for amends; find ways to heal and focus on HG.

Alternatives have been available and used some. More alternatives are opening as understanding gets clearer. Slavery to U$hPa is an option being grasped by some still. Marriage to PG is an option still held by some.
May each person find his or her true joy, my wish.
Best of lift to ALL, Joe
PS: It is an exciting time in the history of hang gliding. The future will surprise many nicely. Tectonic flows are occurring in HG opportunities as to wings, sites, LZs, methods of involvement, HG niche activities, ways to see and respect weather and wind, ... The current set of orgs will pass into a new set of orgs, no matter what was done this week!

Excellent record keeping Joe!!!

I've gotten into the habit of making copies of whatever I post to the Oz forum because that site has a long history of moving and/or removing posts. I had not gotten into that habit at Crestline because they've never had an incident like this before.

I'm glad you've been more careful about preserving the history of our sport.
