For those of you who do not know...this You Tube Video , contains movies from the very early days.
The Contest seen is the 3rd Annual Otto Lilenthal Hang Glider Meet July 1973.
To My Knowledge8 This is the Only Known film in existence to show Founding Members of the "current" USHPA (*original membership #) Jack Lambie , Lloyd Licher #4 , Dick Eipper #1 , Joe Faust #5 , Frank Colver #7 , Dave Cronk #14 , Chris Talbot-Jones #17 and also Taras Kiceniuk Jr. #39 , Mike Riggs #77 , along with Bob & Chris Wills.

***all footage was contributed for digital transfer by the family of Chris Talbot-Jones.

Fascinating content... but boy that transfer is rough. The flicker is literally headache inducing for me. The quality of the Barry Palmer videos is actually quite good (no flicker) and 10 years older than this. Does the original film still exist or was this a digitized VHS recording (made right off the projected image)?

-------- I spent over a year attempting to locate a "useable working projector that could run both *mm & the "newer" Super Eight Films.... However the glitch was with each projector I uncovered in my search ....there were malfunctions with each unit. from bulbs to power supplys to mechanical breakage. I managed to find a working 8 / Super 8 film EDITOR, a hand cranked unit with a 4 inch viewer.
So I placed my Sony Video Camera right dead in front of that 4 inch viewer and pressed "Record" as I hand turned the cranks, I had to get all the calibration down to a science to get it in frame and then used my very best Buster Keaton , Cameraman hand crank method... The flicker comes from the paddlewheel frame paddle inside the editor which mechanically advances the film over the small 3/8 inch lens, then into 2 mirrors inside the editor and unto the 4 inch opaque screen-
The quality has nothing to do with the "film" or the age of the film . If a US HAWKS member will ship a working 8/Super8 projector to us here, we will make needed re-productions of all these films- But in the 12 months I had custody of the rare films belonging to the Talbot-Jones family, this was the best I could do- Yes I realize if we could sponsor a Hollywood Company to make a high quality duplication or bump these up to 16 mm for re-mastering and then to digital the quality will be Brilliant. Maybe Larry Dighera has the only remaining 8mm projector ? If anyone has one (working) in the closet ...send it UPS to me ! Thanks

Wow, that sounds like a LOT of work. Seems like the recovery of the old films is worthy of a small USHPA fund. I'm sure there are a ton of reels in shoe boxes across the country.

I work for a local Professional Recording Studio so we are always expanding our production equipment.
We continue to do projects for military, government, & universities. Future 8mm projects can be done, And we continue to search for upgrades in our facilities. I encourage anyone to contact me with their old films - and I assure you we will use better equipment!

Welcome Victoria "T-J" McBride !
...
She strongly enthusiastically ran her wings to get airspeed and then flew
airframed parawing hang gliders and also
Dunne evolutes via Kiceniuk and Christopher T-J designs.
She robustly supported the family printing operation in Pasadena, CA
that supported HG construction projects and some HG printing.
She provided warmth at meets and fully participated with her son.
Enough hats off for her has yet to occur. Her works and spirit tied together
many early renaissance strands. She played a part in obtaining the Self-Soar Association (S-SA) logo (see her shirt in the 8 mm video). Production, sales, energetic involvement:
she was front and center, yet forwarded others. Thanks, Vicky.

BTY I made those Red SCHGA Arm Bands the night before the meet , Jack kept 2 of them in the glove compartment of his Honda Civic and used them on numerous occasions to get into hang glider events for "FREE" .........
