Re: Nesting behavior of the Ozone Warbler

In a study recently released by ornithologists, Ozone Warblers are observed nesting in various environments. It is revealed that Ozone Warblers often mistake other objects for trees - poles, fences, a cow and even a beach umbrella! This has led the scientists to suspect the high number of broken eggs that have been found have to do with flawed nesting behavior that may itself be due to a genetic bottleneck like the Toba Eruption.

What I find disheartening is the ornithologists studying and supporting the Ozone Warbler don’t have support racks on their vehicles needed in the recovery of birds of prey like the WW Falcon, thoughtless.

And so often the recovery of the Ozone Warbler is with vehicles sporting red and blue lights and sirens.

And so often the recovery of the Ozone Warbler is with vehicles sporting red and blue lights and sirens.

The taxidermists started installing those red and blue lights on their vans when ornithologists told them that Ozone Warblers were attracted to them.

Ornithologists have presented a new theory concerning the lack of eggs from nesting Ozone Warblers.
Due to their strange predilection for choosing unlikely objects to nest in, and often hanging below the nest rather than within it, ornithologists now suspect that the missing eggs may have fallen to the ground, shattered and then been devoured by wild animals. Studies are now ongoing at known nesting sites for overlooked egg shards below the nest.

Stunned onlookers await the arrival of a tow truck and a taxidermist.

One aspect of Ozone Warbler nesting behavior that ornithologists find particularly distressing are the frequent attempts to nest on moving automobiles.
Just today, June 29, two Ozone Warblers damaged cars in Brazil and Norway.
"We do not understand this nesting behavior," said one ornithologist. "These Ozone Warblers seem to be driven by instinct to nest on bright objects. That may have worked well for them in the distant past, when these bright objects were most likely exposed rocks or bleached upper branches of trees. But they do not seem to be adapting to modern civilization and may soon become extinct."

The Ozone Warbler's poor choice of nesting sites often interferes with human activities. Here, ski lift operaters await the arrival of a taxidermist.

A taxidermist carefully descends a gondola lift cable in Switzerland on Thursday to capture an Ozone Warbler who has mistaken the cable for a tree.
"We were lucky to find a taxidermist today," said one ornithologist. "Most were at Mt. Blanc."
