This blog will examine the causes and lessons derived from the untimely demise of a 'flight park' in Kansas.
Correlations with USHPA and other items of interest also explored.
All former partners of the corporation are invited to comment as are all interested parties.

Nov. 27, 2015 website note wrote:Adventure AirSports Flying Club no longer provides aerotowing (the towing aloft of hang gliders with an ultralight tug). We will, however, remain active in regional road trips involving platform launch (truck towing) and foot launching at mountain sites. If you would like to learn more about hang gliding activity in the Kansas City area, you might want to join the KC area HG e-mail list.

We enjoyed the experience of running a small aerotow park, giving tandem instruction and discovery flights, and seeing a handful of new pilots earn their wings. We thank everyone who supported our operation and came out to discover the thrill and freedom of modern hang gliding.

Noting: "small" aerotow park. Stopped that portion of their activity.
Noting: "remain active in regional road trips involving platform launch ..."

The simplified 'point' was made in the subject line but I'll expand on that a bit if you like. Feel free to ask questions.

I don't have much time today to be on line but for a short start I joined 3, new to Kansas City hang gliding people, in a joint venture to start an aero towing operation in the KC area. It was a bit of a whirlwind marriage culminating in final corporation papers being sent via Bill Moyes at Quest, in Florida, on the last days of a month I had been there towing in two competitions with a trike that I own.

I brought an enclosed trailer to Florida with the intention of purchasing of a Dragonfly from Moyes at the completion of the competitions. The (last minute) incorporation papers sucked in that it gave temporary management control to Jim Gaar, AKA Blindrodie, a new 2 hour, Hang 2 that happened to be the son of a pro bono lawyer, also a partner, that did the paperwork for us. It arrived just before Bill was to leave for Germany, for certification progress on the Dragonfly.

I read the papers in the van on the way to a bank with Moyes. Bill noted a visceral reaction from me as I read through the slimey legalese. So much was riding on my signature on the contract that I rationalized/counted on the ethics and common sense from the 2 other partners to help correct the temporary management position.
As was provided for in the contract. A re-election. Simple enough.. My bad... I guess I didn't know them well enough to depend on this integrity. And it cost me, but Bill Moyes got his money and I loaded a Dragonfly into the trailer along with my trike and headed home to Missouri.

It didn't take long before Jim Gaar started to take himself serious.
The death of a Midwest flight 'club' was eminent.

More to follow.
