The forecast: Stormy. This may not be a good one for hang gliding and paragliding in our Southwest New Mexico area. A strong low pressure cell is going to travel slowly across the state, starting Friday. Cold temperatures will be coming down on Friday evening, too. This system will drag up some moisture from the Gulf of California and bring some rain and snow to the state starting Friday, along with strong winds. There will be a huge gradient to those winds. Down low, they're forecast to be strong east and southeast all weekend, finally tailing off on Sunday evening. Up higher, around 10,000-12,000 ft MSL, the winds will be mostly strong south. If you just have to get into the air somehow, then Anapra may be your ticket for the weekend, while the east winds blow. Otherwise, I think we'd better just wait for something better to come along. Despite this gloomy outlook, have a great Thanksgiving, everyone! I am so thankful for what I have (including my airtime).
