Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekendRe: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekendFantastic! This will be at dry canyon right? Going to have to pick up and head that way! Thanks!
Re: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekend
It may depend on the conditions, but I think that's the current plan. It might be good to contact someone from the club directly (I'm in San Diego). I might be able to get you a phone number if you need it. Just post or send me a PM. Have fun!! Join a National Hang Gliding Organization: US Hawks at ushawks.org

Re: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekendCould you share which app they are using and what the group name is?
I hope they had a good local club fly in because it doesn't sound like their way of getting the word out goes beyond their click. The XC Bohl in Texas was awesome. 8hrs of airtime myself in 3 days 45 miles, 30 miles, and a nice 60 miler to declared goal ![]()
Re: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekendHi Nate, they use GroupMe but you have to have an invite into the group. On their web page they have a few names of people who can help with that.
Unfortunately most of the weekend was blown out. I did get to get my Jeep up the mountain which was good. Was wanting to check it out to see if I even could. Very cool place, was a shame it was blown out, even though I only hold an H1 and wouldn’t have been able to take advantage anyways. I may have gotten to meet more people though which is what I need to do to accelerate forward in this.
Re: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekendThank you! I'll connect with GroupMe as it looks like the days of this sub-forum are sadly over.
Is there talk of a new LZ if Cox goes away? Dry Canyon is such an epic site. In addition to Dry Canyon, hopefully the Guads happen again. I love it when that comes together. Memorial Day at Dry is also an adventure. Glad to hear the road was climbable.
Re: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekend
Robin was a tremendous supporter of this RGSA club forum here on the U.S. Hawks. His "Weekend Weather" posts were a regular heartbeat for your club. It's not clear if anyone else in the RGSA will step up to fill that gap. The U.S. Hawks gives forum space to chapters so that local issues and events can get national attention. I know that several people from other regions have participated in RGSA events because they found out about them through the U.S. Hawks forum. If USHPA were doing its job, they would also be hosting club forums through their national web site. But USHPA fears the power that such a national platform would give to its members. The future of this forum is up to you. The U.S. Hawks is dedicated to "Promote, Protect, and Serve Recreational Hang Gliding" as stated in our mission and logo. We honor our Chapters and give them the final say on content and membership. You won't get that on Facebook, Twitter, GroupMe or USHPA. Just ask Donald Trump how he would feel if he were an RGSA member and if all RGSA communications were under the thumb of Facebook and Twitter. ![]() P.S. I just went to the GroupMe.com web site and clicked on their "Terms" in the footer. Any guess where that took me? Re: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekendLess than 2 months out from Columbus Day.
Any ideas if this will go on in any type of organized fashion? I'm guessing the event and for the most part the flying site died with Robin ![]() By organized I just mean folks with HG friendly vehicles and rides to be had in exchange for cash money. Sounds like the road is in disrepair. Anyhoo, if it is a go, the earlier the notice, the better the turn out typically.
Re: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekendRGSA PILOTS AND DRIVERS,
The LZ for the Dry Canyon launch has changed ownership from the City of Alamogordo to the school district. The LZ is still insured. The road up to launch is still bad. People with vehicles that have good underside clearance can make it to the top. Lately the area has received much rainfall. Mud usually attracts the four wheeler community that finds the the extra challenge to drive up a lot of fun but not as much fun for low clearance vehicles. After the heavy rain it would be a good move to drive to the top to find out if the road is still there.
Re: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekendI'll be happy to drive if the fly in happens.
Re: Columbus Day Weekend is this coming weekendThanks Finis.
