I got this message yesterday:

A Call Out To USHPA Instructors and Chapters From The 2013 U.S. Paragliding Team

As the 2013 World Paragliding Championships and 2013 Red Bull X-Alps rapidly approach, we are reaching out to the USHPA Instructors and the USHPA Chapters for your help in our quest to support and help fund this year's U S Paragliding Teams. As our data base is limited, we are reaching out to you, the Leaders and Instructors of our flying community, to help us get the word out. We are kindly asking you to please forward this e-mail message out to your students and club members, as you are our lifeline to the USHPA flying community. We thank you in advance for your support. It is greatly appreciated! – With much thanks, Bill Belcourt, President and Matt “Farmer” Beechinor, Director

Please Help Support The 2013 U. S. Paragliding Teams! It is time to be a part of something special! Please make a donation today and be an important part of “OUR” Team!

For more information, please go to our web-site: http://www.usparaglidingteam.org

The World Paragliding Championships will be held in Sopot, Bulgaria on July 13-26: http://para-sopot2013.com/. This year’s U. S. Paragliding Team includes Josh Cohn, Nick Greece, Eric Reed and Arnie Frankenberger, along with Rob Sporrer as Team Leader. These pilots have worked extremely hard to earn their position on the U. S. Paragliding Team. It is now our job to help them in their quest to represent the United States of America in this World arena! Please help support OUR Team!

The Red Bull X-Alps will start in Salzburg, Austria on July 7th. http://www.redbullxalps.com/. This year, the U.S. will be represented by two Teams. USA Team 1 consists of Honza Rejmanek (4 time participant – placed third in 2009), along with supporters Luis Rosenkjer and Jesse Williams. USA Team 2 consists of first time participant, Stephan Haase, along with supporters Brad Sander and Dave Hanning. This is one of the toughest and most watched endurance races on the planet and these pilots deserve our support. So you can see the amount of dedication that it takes just to train for this event, I have attached a summary of one of Honza’s training sessions from Owens Valley back in March 2013. This is the type of dedication that warrants our support.

The estimated cost to send our U. S. Paragliding Teams to participate in this year's World Paragliding Championships and Red Bull X-Alps is $38,000.00.

We have raised approximately $10,100.00 as of May 6, 2013. We are now asking the members of our flying community to step up and show their support for "OUR TEAM". We kindly ask you to visit our web-site and become a supporting member of the U. S. Paragliding Team. It is up to us to make this happen. Please visit our web-site and make a secure online donation today. Go to:

Donations in any amount are welcome and appreciated.

OUR Team Thanks you in advance for your support. It is greatly appreciated!

All members of this non-profit corporation are volunteers and are not paid for their time and services. All funds raised from donations go directly to the pilots of the U. S. Paragliding Team to subsidize competition entry fees, airfare, lodging, transportation, food and miscellaneous expenses. Thank-you in advance for your support and generosity!! I'm not against paragliding, but some of the people on this team haven't been very helpful to the sport of hang gliding or to the Torrey Hawks Hang Gliding Club. I find it particularly ironic that Rob Sporrer (our Region 3 Director) would be asking our club for money after he's thumbed his nose at us for years.

I think I can find something better to do with my money.

One need not be against something in order to be 100% for something.

Will it be in the Torrey Hawks Hang Gliding Club bylaw set? JoeF wrote:
The assets of the Club will be 100% for airframed hang gliding tech and activity.

Then advertising space could be sold to G.A., ice hockey, canopy gliding, rock concerts, etc.
Funds from the advertising would go from the Club toward advancing airframed hang gliding at Torrey, etc.

There are hundreds of aviation sectors that would like funds to support their activities.

Canopy gliding still does not have mid-air launch and mid-air terminatiing-flight tech habited to avoid the PDMC while the community still habitually invites a large flow into non-conservative airs to the death and injury of far too many people. Personally I care deeply positively about canopy gliding kites; but such care has me end up withdrawing support for the present canopy-gliding sport; huge change is needed. My personal budget for foot-launch habited gliding has zero to further the canopy-gliding activity, but significant for advancing toward the day when only air-to-air launch and termination operations occur in a sport that is not here yet with high-aspect-ratio canopy gliders. Current status has the high-aspect-ratio canopy gliding as something to be not supported while putting whatever assets are available for foot-launch gliding into systems that maintain neg-g flying integrity.

In extreme calms with proof of near-zero thermic activity, then some high-aspect-ratio canopy sledding could be supported. But definitely no support here for competitive open-airs meets. Calm, as oblique and ground-parallel helicities occur in even mild winds. Thermic, as all directions of helicities occur.

Will there be an org dedicated to airframed hang gliding fully? There once was; will there be again?

I invite the US PGTeam to dissolve, withdraw entry to the world event, and put the collected funds into research and development for air-to-air operations before going any further with its assets.

I invite the USHPA to halt all high-aspect ratio canopy gliding involvement until the air-to-air solutions are found for that sector of gliding. ~ PDMC
