Aren't pilots flying at Torrey required to wear helmets?

I believe helmets are a site requirement , along with parachutes. A brain is good too

All pilots must have a radio rule. (to clear the AIR in case a a Heli rescue)

I did think about the possibility that the pilot's helmet may have "flown" off his head on impact.

In that case, it would seem the helmet had a longer duration flight than the collapsible canopy occupant.

Still, if a helmet doesn't stay on your head, it's essentially useless.

Is the mandate for all pilots to use radios at Torrey effective yet?

If so, did this new requirement by the Torrey mgr benefit the rescue?

This really shows the vast dual standards set for PG vs HG.

As a HG pilot, H4 is a requirement and many other hurdles.

As a visiting PG pilot you are allowed to try launching in no breeze??

Oh, Robin must have been on a smoke break out by the oxygen tank.

There are Several unreasonable rules Made by what most consider Unqualified Management. All controlled by the TPGP Leaseholder ....
To include: .... flight director, instructors, Tandem pilots, & other's involved.

I believe it is. It's incredibly sad that Ken Baier who is supposed to represent pilot's interests just goes along with whatever Robin wants. But what does Ken care? He doesn't even fly at Torrey Pines any more. In fact, I've asked him how long it's been since he's flown a hang glider and Torrey and his answer was many years (with an emphasis on "many"). How in the world can we be represented by a pilot who doesn't even fly at the site?



Yes there are dual standards, they put "rules" like these in place so they have an easy reason to suspend people. It reminds me of the old 55mph speed limit. Everyone (at least in California) was regularly driving well above that, so that gave the police to pick and choose who they wanted to pull over. It's the same at Torrey. For example, they have a "window rule" that their own instructors and students violate every day (at least every flying day). It's so routinely violated, that it might as well not exist ... except that it's a good excuse to harass pilots they don't like. And once again, Ken Baier (our "USHPA" representative) does nothing.
