... and to all a Good Night!!!

My Dad used to read that story ("The Night Before Christmas") to us every year as kids. He passed away earlier this month, and I was there when he left us. Thanks for reminding me of that fond memory from my childhood.

Thanks Margie and Sam. Merry Christmas to both of you as well!!!

Who knows the ending? (I forgot.)

Twas the night before season and all through the shack -
the hunters were starting to crawl in the sack.

Some couldn’t get used to the smell of the bunks-
They’d been slept in all year by a family of skunks.

George in his long johns had just gone out back-
for some wood he’d forgot to bring in the shack.

When what to his half opened eyes should appear -
But a big old bruin and a ten point buck deer.

To the top of the wood pile and right up the wall-
George in his long johns started to crawl.

(not quite sure about the rest--something like-)

George in his haste raced toward the sky-
Man you should’ve seen the old tar paper fly.

(The rest will be lost for ever without your help!)

Anyway seasons greetings (somewhat late.)

Here's another version of that diddy. I'll keep looking for the version you're trying to remember!

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
Ark. Version

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, AND ALL THROUGH THE SHACK,
NOT A DARN THING WAS A MOVIN' FROM THE FRONT TO THE BACK.

THE KIDS WERE IN BED, WE HAD NINE AT THE TIME,
THE WIFE IN HER CURLERS WAS LOOKIN' REAL FINE.

A COLD WIND WAS BLOWIN', UP THE HOLLER IT MOANED,
TEN DOGS ON THE PORCH ALL HOWLED AND GROANED.

THE BOYS WERE ALL DREAMIN' OF WEAPONS AND A GUN,
FOR KILLIN' GOD'S CREATURES, THERE'S NO BETTER FUN!

THE GIRLS IN THEIR FEMININE DREAMS WERE TUNE,
TO GETTING THOSE GALLONS OF WAL-MART PERFUME.

THE WIFE WANTED JEWELRY, LIKE RINGS WITH BIG ROCKS.
I JUST WANTED MY CHEVY DOWN OFF OF THEM BLOCKS.

THEN OUT IN YARD, SUCH A NOISE DID COMMENCE,
LIKE SOMETHING WAS CAUGHT IN OUR NEW BOB-WAR FENCE.

I RAN TO THE WINDOW, AND SAW PRETTY QUICK,
THE MAN MAKIN' THAT RACKET, WAS GOOD OL' ST. NICK.

YOU MAY THINK OF SANTA IN YOU OWN MIND'S EYES,
DRESSED IN A RED AND WHITE SUIT, BUT I'VE GOT A SURPRISE.

THAT OLD BOY'S AN ARKIE, FROM UP NEAR MT. GAYLOR,
HE MARRIED HIS COUSIN, AND THEY LIVE IN A TRAILER.

ON CHRISTMAS, OF COURSE, A SLEIGH FOR HIS RIG,
HE HOOKS THE THING UP TO A RAZORBACK PIG!

FAT LEGS IN HIS BRITCHES, CHUBBY HANDS IN EACH MITTEN,
I MUST ADMIT FROM THE BACK, HE LOOKED LIKE BILL CLINTON.

HE TURNED TOWARD THE TREE, HIS EYES ALL AGLOW,
HE WAS AN ARKANSAS BOY FROM HIS HEAD TO HIS TOE.

HIS NECK WAS A RED ONE, HIS SHIRT SAID "LITE BEER",
HE HAD NO RED HAT ON, BUT HIS CAP READ "JOHN DEERE".

HE LEFT ALL THE PRESENTS, WITH AN AIR OF DELIGHT,
THEN IT WAS BACK TO THE CHIMNEY, AND INTO THE NIGHT.

HE RAN INTO THE YARD, THREW HIS BAG IN THE SLEIGH,
THEN HE YELLED AT THE DOGS, GET THE HELL OUT TH' WAY!"

I RAN OUT TO ASK HIM WHY HE BROUGHT SUCH GOOD CHEER;
BUT INSTEAD HE JUST ASKED ME, "YOU GET YOU A DEER?"

THEN I HEARD HIM EXCLAIM, AS THOSE PIGS TOOK FLIGHT,
"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.I NEED A BUD LITE!"

Sam, it's never too late to wish someone a happy holiday :!:

Have a great and safe flying year :!:

Hunting

Subject: The night before Christmas
Date: 06/21/2000
Author: B Gulliver

Twas the night before Christmas
in an old hunting shack,
the rifles were loaded
and hung in the rack.

Eight hunters were sleeping
all snug in their beds,
while visions of trophy bucks
danced in their heads.

Then outside the shack
something moved on the land.
They ran to the window
with rifles in hand

when what to their half open
eyes should appear,
but eight trophy bucks,
eight beautiful deer.

They all raised their rifles
and each took a shot,
they all connected
believe it or not.

Then out of the dark
came a voice loud and clear
"You goofy cocksuckers
shot my f***ing reindeer!"

Hi Margie, Bill, Hawks,

Those versions are really funny. I can really relate to the line, "cold wind a blowin', up a holler it moaned".

Most of all, I hope Santa brings us all a healthy and prosperous new year. That way we can exchange the filthy green stuff for what we each need/want.

PTL, last week I started a residental remodel/addition job that will take at least 6mo. Hopefully with a steady paycheck, I can afford to fly some this year.

The property owner is an aeronaut. As a young adult, started flying crop dusters in South Tx. Most recently, flying commercial airlines, due to retire this June. He is looking to buy a light sport/ultralight. I want him to meet the tug pilots at Zapata and BigSpring. He is a great candidate for a local tug pilot.

 ,
Sam

Those were really funny!!!

I laughed out loud right here at work ... and got a few stares.      :srofl: :srofl: :srofl:

By the way, since I just used the "srofl" smiley ( :srofl: ) I thought I would again mention that this little laughing icon was designed and contributed by Margie's very talented daughter Sonja (the "s" in "srofl" stands for Sonja). So if anyone needs any art work done, I would highly recommend her. Margie, please post a link to any of her art work if you'd like to show it off.

Sam, it sounds like you might have another candidate hang glider pilot with your aeronaut friend. Tell him you haven't really flown until you've flown a hang glider.

Happy New Year to everyone!!
