I attended the San Diego Mayoral debate tonight. The three current candidates are Barbara Bry, Todd Gloria, and Tasha Williamson. Sherri Lightner was one of the moderators.

I expected lies and/or distortions from Gloria and Bry. I wasn't disappointed. Todd Gloria told an outright lie, and I'll be publishing it after I process the video.
The one person who really impressed me was Tasha Williamson. I'd met Tasha before at the City Council, but she really shined this evening at the debates. I spoke with her afterward, and she was kind enough to take a picture with me:

Given the horrible track record of Bry and Gloria, it's hard not to like Tasha!! She talks straight and has done her homework on a lot of issues.

Todd Gloria's BIG LIE
As I mentioned above, Todd Gloria told an outright lie tonight at the Mayoral Debate. A question was asked "What will you do to ensure that citizen input is considered?"
Here's what Todd Gloria said:
"As Councilmember, as Council President, as Interim Mayor, as State Assemblymember, I've shown up to meetings over and over again to listen and to be in touch. I have a reputation for being one of the most accessible elected officials, and that will not change if I am the Mayor."
LIAR!!!
Since I began working on the Torrey Pines Gliderport problem, the members of our club have made continual requests for meetings to solve the ongoing problems at that Gliderport. Here's the record of Councilmember, Council President, and Mayoral meetings over that time:
2 meetings (or more) with Councilwoman Donna Frye 2 meetings (or more) with Council President Tony Young 2 meetings (or more) with Council President Myrtle Cole 2 meetings with Councilman David Alvarez (one by phone) 3 meetings with Mayor Bob Filner (only in office for 8 months) 1 meeting with Mayor Kevin Faulconer 1 meeting with Councilman Chris Ward 3 meetings with Councilmember/Candidate Barbara Bry
Now let's compare that to Todd Gloria's 8year record:
0 meetings with Councilmember Todd Gloria 0 meetings with Council President Todd Gloria 0 meetings with Mayor Todd Gloria
Yet Todd Gloria has the audacity to stand up on stage and say that he has "a reputation for being one of the most accessible elected officials"? The record is very clear that he is one of the least accessible elected officials. You can't get any more "least" than zero!
Here's the video with Sherri Lightner reading the question and Todd Gloria answering:

This was an early draft of my question to the candidate forum:
Quote:
The vast majority of the City's wealth is held in the form of extremely valuable real estate owned by the City in the name of the people. These are the beaches, parks, open spaces, buildings, and other valuable real estate holdings of the City.
There has been ongoing concern about corruption in the management of these extremely valuable resources. For example, the multi-million dollar City property at Torrey Pines Gliderport was issued as a FREE lease to former San Diego police officer David Jebb's company (Air California Adventure) in 1998. That free lease expired in 2008 and yet Air California Adventure still holds it to this day making between 1 and 2 million dollars (documented) every year without any oversight by the City and without paying the City one dime. There were two ill explained deaths at that site just this past spring.
How do you explain that situation and what would you do differently as Mayor? Please be specific about that situation, but also address the general problem of corruption and mismanagement of public resources in the City.
At the forum itself, however, I had to chop it down to write it "legibly" on a relatively small index card. So this is what I actually submitted as my question:

San Diego City Attorney
It looks like the front runners for City Attorney are challenger Cory Briggs running against incumbent Mara Elliot.
Cory Briggs has a long track record in San Diego standing up for citizens. By contrast, Mara Elliot has stood behind the "business as usual" situation at Torrey Pines Gliderport.
