UCPG - University Community Planning GroupOver the past few months Ernie and I have been attending the
University Community Planning Group (UCPG) meetings. We've been asking them to support reactivation of the Torrey Pines City Park Advisory Board and to support a flight waiver similar to the one we've been using at Dockweiler since 2017.
After at least one presentation and a number of subsequent discussions, the UCPG voted last month (March 10, 2026) to endorse the reactivation of the Advisory Board. I just got a copy of the letter subsequent to last night's April meeting:

Dear Mayor Gloria, Council President LaCava, and Council President Pro Tem Lee,
At the University Community Planning Group meeting on March 10, 2026, the UCPG passed the following resolution.
“Whereas Torrey Pines City Park has unique and irreplaceable natural resources, and whereas Torrey Pines City Park brings visitors from all over the nation and world with its unparalleled views, trails, and beach access together with a nationally recognized glider port, and whereas commercialization of parks is a concern for all citizens, and whereas citizen input over these resources is both appropriate and timely, the University Community Planning Group recommends that the City establish a Torrey Pines City Park Advisory Board under Charter Section 43A to advise the city on planning, maintenance, and operation of Torrey Pines City Park.”
Passed March 10, 2026, unanimously with 11 Yes, 0 No, and 0 Abstain.
Sincerely,
Chris Nielsn
UPG Chair
