Re: Motion to insert the mission statement into Hawks banner

I think that the basic mission statement speaks for itself and doesn't necessarily need the word "Mission" in front of it.

I think I would also actually go with a smaller font, considering the space available. As it is, it looks too cluttered.

And, not meaning to knit pick too much, . . . Since this is the "US" Hawks' banner, is it required to repeat "in the US" ?
When the Hawks go worldwide, then we can worry about adding "in the US" to the U.S. based Hawks organization. :D

Considering the above, the basic lettering could simply read "To Promote, Protect and Serve Recreational Hang Gliding"

I would also mention that having more space would be a bit better. But if managing that takes more time and effort, then we could go ahead (for now?) with the space available.

Also, I haven't experimented with extending the size of the image to the right. I may have to dig into the code to allow it to resize in width, but it might not be too hard. If I can do that, it would give us a lot more room to get what we want.

I am going to withhold my vote until I can look at these technical issues ... hopefully this weekend.

Great idea. I Third and vote Aye.

Sorry if I'm late getting to this discussion, as I'm just figuring out how to access BOD topics.

YES   to any of the suggested wordings, C being preferred.

Hello All,

I took a little time and created my own version of the banner with Mission Statement.

Here it is -

US Hawks banner w mission stat 3-16.jpg
US Hawks banner w mission stat 3-16.jpg (42.25 KiB) Viewed 6646 times

In the tradition of K.I.S.S., I made the font smaller and thinner and subtracted wordage that could be considered unnecessary or redundant. It also fits in Bob's defined red box. :D

The font is Arial, but the size is hard to define since I moved and resized the "text box" in my image processing program.

But the basic idea here (originally brought to us by Bill) is to create a "To Protect and Serve" kind of phrase that everyone connects with the US Hawks. And I'm certain that's exactly what Bill was thinking in making his motion.

Any and all feedback is welcome.

I like it. Thanks Scott!!

I think we could move the text down just a little bit so it borders on the red box. Remember that the red box is generally invisible on the web site, so we don't need to leave any margin between it and the text.

The only thing I don't particularly like is that it strikes me as a bit odd to start out with "To ...". It seems somehow grammatically incorrect to me. But unfortunately, that's the way we ended up wording our mission statement. It seems to me that a better "caption" might be "Promoting, Protecting, and Serving Recreational Hang Gliding", but then all those "ing"s make it longer. :problem:

So in the spirit of compromise, I like Scott's version with the text being moved down toward the lower end of the red box, and that would get my vote:   YES  .

As a point of order, we already have a seconded motion and a vote under way. However, we can continue to entertain discussions if there are no objections. But if anyone does object and wants to finish the existing vote before discussing variations, then please speak up, and we can do it more formally.

And for Rodger ... thanks very very much for joining us.      :salute:

As you can see, the workload on our Directors isn't too strenuous.    ;)

I yield to any grammatical corrections.
I am also just as happy with Scott's suggestion.
Seeing the mission statement on/in the banner in any form suggested so far is a   YES   from me.

I vote   YES   on that last image from Wingspan33. The statement is simple and uncluttered.

I also like Wingspan33's uncluttered proposal. It is slightly abbreviated but I was thinking that would be all right.
With the banner updated as per Wingspan33 Bob could also create a new topic button after viewers click on the Hang Gliding General topic.
Somewhere above or below the, "Hello US Hawks!!" topic make a locked topic (sticky at the top always) That is titled,
"US Hawks Mission Statement." When a viewer clicks on that it will show the un-abbreviated official mission statement.
Before this gets lost in committee, Bob why don't you put up the Wingspan33 idea and we can fine tune from there if a Trial Board Member should so move.

BTW - You all may have noticed that this old guy finally discovered the "vote" button so that I can now have the pretty blue box around my vote.

YES  ,   NO  ,   MAYBE  ,   COULD BE  ,   POSSIBLY  ,   NOT A CHANCE  ,   A SNOW BALL IN HELL  ................love this!

Frank@ DUH.com

BTW- Don't count any of these votes.
