Thanks to Frank for announcing the latest record on hanggliding.org:

A new site record of number of hang glider flights, by an individual, in one day, has been set at Dockweiler Beach California. The old record of 200 flights has been raised to 201 flights. That's 201 launches and 201 landings and 201 glider hikes up the soft sand bluff, by one individual in one day folks! Wears me out just to think about it.

The 25 foot sand bluff also became soarable during part of the afternoon so the pilot also took some time away from record setting to soar for a while.

The new record was set on Sunday, June 20, the summer solstice, longest day of the year. The witness/flight recorder was another HG old timer.

My congratulations to the record setting pilot.

Unfortunately, pilot's name and witness' name are not allowed to be mentioned on this forum but my hat's off to both.

Frank C

Of course, Frank could not publicly say that the pilot was Bob Kuczewski, or the witness was Joe Faust. Jack Axaopoulos has been practicing "Cancel Culture" on hanggliding.org long before that term became popular.

In a healthy sport, Frank's post would have been welcomed as yet another (albeit minor) mark of progress. Sadly, these have been the two response posts so far on hanggliding.org:

Or was it a broken record flew Dockweiler Beach?

Rebardan (Dan DeWeese) was yet another USHPA Director who rode the USHPA "Gravy Train" all the way to USHPA's loss of insurance.

But Dan is right that I have been a "broken record" in my call for reforms at Torrey and USHPA. While Dan likely thought that his clever turn of phrase would be a slap to me, the truth is that I am honored by his recognition that I have been a "broken record" for over a decade on those issues. My record is clear that I have stood for oversight and eradication of the abuses at Torrey. My record is clear that I have stood for open voting by Directors on the USHPA Board. My record is clear that I have stood for freeing our sport from the shackles of unnecessary liability insurance (already covered by Recreational Land Use statutes in every state). Yes, I am a "broken record" on those issues, because USHPA remains broken on those issues. If USHPA had listened to my calls for oversight in 2009 and 2010, they might not have lost their insurance from the events of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

This post Talking about all these Flights has gotten Me to thinking about the Highest number of Flights ever that were taken from Mount Diablo. For The highest number of Flights ever done Flying from Mount Diablo was a Paltry 18 Flights. I used to think that 18 flights from a Mountain Site was a pretty High number of Flights. But now that number must be over 100 Flights in order to be taken seriously.

I thought that I was doing pretty well that Day. For I had 18 launches of the Mountain that Day. Seventeen landings at the Juniper Ridge LZ. Plus the I would need a steady SW Breeze, and I would have to Hustle, Hustle, Hustle.

I decided to go for the Dockweiler record on May 24th, 2021. That was the day after the 50th Anniversary of the original Otto Lilienthal Meet / Birthday celebration of 1971.

I really enjoyed the 50th Anniversary of the Otto Meet, but I was disappointed that I couldn't fly that day (Sunday) due to the ongoing corruption and retaliation by USHPA. So I decided to fly the next day (Monday) using the Dockweiler waiver (thanks to Joe Faust, Frank Colver, Supervisor Hahn, and Los Angeles County Beaches and Harbors).

On a whim, I set up my camera in the L.Z. to record some of my flights. When I got home, I edited them into this video (with sound track from the San Diego City Council meeting):

https://youtu.be/-YrZOTQlZKk

Making and watching that video inspired me to go for the record on the longest Monday of the year.

And the rest ... is history.

SITE RECORD BROKEN!!!

Postby Chris McKeon » Fri Jul 02, 2021 6:36 pm

Well I am contemplating my own For Me that is. My Big day regarding While I was Flying My Home Site The Bay Areas own Mount Diablo. I thought, Thinking was my Problem that Day For I Cranked off 188* launches off the Mountain that Day, and I finished 17 by landing up on the Mountain. And the Last landing ending after a 44 Mile XC Flight. Well now after reading of a Pilot Flying over a Hundred Flights down a Dockweiler, I need to take a new look at that Day. Over a Hundred Flights could be Done at Mount Diablo, but I would need to Hustle.

I simply just love to Fly, I am going to return to the Sky. Best: High WISHES} to All Chris McKeon. CCMCK@GOLDSTATE.NET 925-497-1059

Hi Joe,

I'm sure I saw your post back in July, but I missed your subtle hints at numeric alliteration:

    201 21 2021

As soon as I recognized what you'd written, I checked the calendar for June 22, 2022 for a possible 202 flight attempt. Sadly, June 22nd is on a Wednesday in 2022, so those numbers don't quite work out this year.

On the other hand, the 21st is a Tuesday in 2022, and I'm hoping it will be accompanied by a pleasant westerly wind peaking around 22 mph this year. Mark your calendar, and I hope to see you there!

You know I thought that I was doing fairly well. Regarding having having had 18 launches, and 17 landings off Mount Diablo. Well Being able to land Down Wind Up Hill has its virtues. My last launch ,the eighteenth launch ended the Day of my flying. Fot my eighteenth landing was where I landed after a 4 mile XC flighty.

That makes it sound like you're still up in the air!!!

Ahhh, that explains it.    ;)

By the way, this is a very nice video that shows what a typical day at Dockweiler looks like:

https://youtu.be/-YrZOTQlZKk

I hope you enjoy it. That's a video that could never be posted on hanggliding.org!!    :srofl: :srofl: :srofl:

Here's another video from a much stronger day at Dockweiler:

I guess you couldn't post that one on hanggliding.org either!!

That brings up an interesting question:

Does anyone know how much of the sport of hang gliding
        is intentionally unavailable at "hanggliding.org"?
