Dockweiler Otto Lilienthal Hang Gliding Meet 2026

Postby Bob Kuczewski » Sat May 16, 2026 2:23 pm

May 23, 2026 will be another celebration of Otto's Birthday.

For better or worse, this year that date falls on a Saturday which means that the Windsports school will likely be operating at Dockweiler State Beach in Los Angeles California. The "better" part is that there will be instructors there for lessons and rentals of hang gliders, helmets, and harnesses. The "worse" part is that it will cost a small amount to fly, and it will require USHPA membership (either permanent or temporary).

As an alternative celebration, Monday (May 25, 2026) and Tuesday (May 26, 2026) will allow flying without USHPA membership and without paying a flying fee.

Please choose whichever date suits you (or ALL OF THEM!) and enjoy another celebration of Otto Lilienthal's birthday. :)

Ernest and I flew at Dockweiler today to celebrate Otto's birthday in 2026. We flew the Condor 225 that Frank Colver had so generously donated. I'd say that we each got about 20 flights, and many were soaring flights. This was the BlobPlot forecast for the day:

The forecast was accurate, and we had a great time all day. :)

Thanks to Ernest for a fun day of flying, and thanks to Frank for making it possible with his Condor 225.   :salute: :salute:
