My 2 cents......

  A C D=E B F=G

After a 1200 mile drive in the past two days & this vote test, I definitely need another beer!

And after an hour on the phone with me, you might make that ... another 6 pack!!        :lol:

Thanks very much for your time on the phone Tommy. Please check out the great historical work that Joe Faust and Neil Larson have been contributing on this forum.

"D" as a tease into the future when "floats when wanted" will be triggered to show when pilot wants them, else they will be non-drag collapsed items during soaring. Floats-when-wanted FWW will open landings into ponds, lakes, seas, rivers, creeks, bogs, swimming pools, watering troughs, etc. And flat-water days at Torrey ...

Ooops. I didn't catch this when I read it the first time (sorry Bill), and it brings up a good point.

If an option should ever become unavailable, we can always remove it from the ballots and recompute the result. This works because the ordering of the choices does not depend on the number of choices.

If I like blue better than green and I like green better than red, then if green becomes unavailable, I will still like blue better than red. In fact, that's the key to this voting system. Each ordered vote tells how you would vote if any two were "run off" against each other. So if my preference is:

    blue green red

Then in a run-off between blue and green, I would pick blue, and in a run-off between blue and red, I would pick blue, and in a run-off between green and red, I would pick green. It's as simple as that.

OK, Let's take a look at all the ballots so far:

 C=B D F A=G E     (Bob's ballot)
 A=C D B G F E     (Bill's ballot)
 C=A F G B D E     (Sam's ballot)
 A C D=E B F=G     (Tommy's ballot)
 D E C A B=F=G     (Joe's ballot)

It looks like C is the best choice, but let's verify that by doing instant "run-offs" to see. Let's start by seeing if C could beat A. We'll look at exactly the same ballots, but I've eliminated all but A and C:

 C       A         C since Bob prefers C over A
 A=C      = since Bill doesn't care
 C=A      = since Sam doesn't care
 A C      A since Tommy prefers A over C
  C A      C since Joe prefers C over A

So if we had a run-off between A and C, C would get 2 votes, and A would get one vote. So C would win against A.

Now let's do the same thing with B and C:

 C=B               = since Bob doesn't care
  C B      C since Bill prefers C over B
 C B      C since Sam prefers C over B
  C B      C since Tommy prefers C over B
  C B      C since Joe prefers C over B

So if we had a run-off between B and C, C would get 4 votes, and B would get none. So C would win against B.

Now let's try it with C against D:

 C   D             C since Bob prefers C over D
  C D      C since Bill prefers C over D
 C D      C since Sam prefers C over D
  C D      C since Tommy prefers C over D
 D C      D since Joe prefers D over C

So that's 4 votes for C and 1 vote for D. So C would win in a run-off against D.

Let's compare C against E:

 C           E     C since Bob prefers C over E
  C E     C since Bill prefers C over E
 C E     C since Sam prefers C over E
  C E      C since Tommy prefers C over E
  E C      E since Joe prefers E over C

Again, C would get 4 votes and E would only get 1. So C would win in a run-off against E.

Let's look at the run-off between C and F:

 C     F           C since Bob prefers C over F
  C F      C since Bill prefers C over F
 C F      C since Sam prefers C over F
  C F      C since Tommy prefers C over F
  C F      C since Joe prefers C over F

So C would be chosen unanimously over F in a run-off.

Finally, let's see how C does against G:

 C         G       C since Bob prefers C over G
  C G      C since Bill prefers C over G
 C G      C since Sam prefers C over G
  C G     C since Tommy prefers C over G
  C G     C since Joe prefers C over G

As with C against F, C would be chosen unanimously in a run-off against G.

So we can show with these ballots (so far) that C would be able to defeat ALL other candidates in one-on-one races. It's important to really understand what this means. Imagine, for example, that some other voting method was used and it came up with "A" as the winner using these same ballots. That means that C could immediately challenge and ask for a one-on-one run-off against A ... and C would win!! There's no other candidate who could do that because they all lost against C.

Does this make sense to everyone?
