Avatar Mess!!

It looks like I've messed up the avatars for all members of the "Approved Users" group.

I was trying to provide a "default" avatar for members of the group who hadn't submitted one, so I went into group settings and added an avatar for the "Approved Users" group. I was hoping it would only over-ride those who hadn't uploaded an avatar yet. But it ended up over-riding all avatars for that group.

"OK", I thought, "I'll just remove the group avatar and it will all go back to the way it was". Oops. When I deleted the group avatar, all approved users showed up with no avatar at all!!!

So I created this avatar for the group:

I am hoping I can go in and figure out how to fix this, but I'll be at the Torrey Hawks "Second Sunday" fly-in for most of the day. So it might not be until tomorrow that I get it fixed.

Sorry for any inconvenience. Managing a forum is an ongoing learning experience. If any of you have some experience with phpBB, please post here or send me a PM. I could sure use someone to consult with on things like this.

Whew!!!

Fortunately, I've been backing up the forum fairly regularly, and I was able to dig out the avatars from one of the backups!! So I think I've restored everyone's avatars as they were before my little fiasco. If yours isn't restored, please either upload another one, or just send me a PM, and I can try to help you fix it. Again, I'm sorry about any trouble this may have caused.

Also, there's a silver lining in this experience. I realized that a lot of members don't have avatars, so this got me to thinking about coming up with a stock set of photos to use for member avatars. So I've been writing to a few of the major manufacturers and asking if I can use some of the photos from their web site (or their own selection) to use as avatars for the site.

Lemons to lemonade.
