US Hawks: Self-Register Hang Gliders: HG#####HG

Postby JoeF » Thu May 21, 2015 8:27 am

F.A.A. allows hang gliders to be unregistered (with gov) vehicles with a right to navigate the airspace with the proviso that applicable F.A.R.s are respected in operations. So, the question of this topic concerns a free option to construct US Hawks registration of hang gliders for our own interests. What could be our interests in forming a craft register? How would the register work? Would we gain benefits from the register? How might the given registration number be used? One offer of format: HG######HG where "HG" starts and stops the string "HG". Are there some downsides to the idea?

START:
== I tend to ever leave it fully optional to each hang glider owner to identify a particular hang glider with HG######HG or not, and without policing and without any demerits. If there are positives, just go after the positives.

== The identification may be placed super tiny on a hang glider or super large or not at all.

== A owner of a hang glider could add a mod letter, say HG######HGmodA and then HG######HGmodB and then HG######HGmodC, etc. An online blog could follow a particular hang glider and its mod history; the posts would be by the current owner of the hang glider. Again, no policing, ever optional. Fun and interesting quotient served. The blog on a hang glider so registered with US Hawks could list beaks, hard landings, nicks, bends, cable replacement dates, dates of detail inspection, storage notes, use notes, UV exposure notes, ... etc. A hang glider would be traced up to the interest of the owner of the hang glider. Credibility and level of accuracy would probably be part of the result; and again, no policing org-wise. Anyone, of course, could online ask questions about a particular hang glider.

== There will be hang gliders that simply do not show up in the US Hawks hang glider register.

== Who made a particular hang glider? Owner made? Commercially made? Made from a published plan? Is there a manufacturer's serial number (SN) placarded on the hang glider? Has mods been made to the commercial-made hang glider? Does the owner have a copy of the manual? Copies of rib forms? What is the age of the craft and its parts. Any special comments about the hang glider? Method of inspections?

== No two Falcon 3 hang gliders are exactly alike. Differences begin at the factory and continue to accumulate as time unfolds. What differences matter to owners and users of a particular hang glider?

== Some hang gliders have been registered with the F.A.A.. Those hang gliders with an N registration, raise your hands! Such might be a separate topic.
Explore: Taras Kiceniuk, Jr.. for an N registration. Explore early NASA Rogallo parawing hang glider for an N registration. Explore Barry Hill Palmer too.

== Have in the database and blogs only HGs (no parachutes, no wing-suits, no skateboards, no automobiles, no bicycles, no Boeing 747s, ...)
???

take positive action to develop these programs in a timely manner and gain FAA approval for their

may be necessary."

So, we, as a part of the ultralight vehicle community, may or may not construct pilot certification, vehicle certification, or vehicle registration, if we think that such structures are important for a safety program or important for our enjoyment also. The F.A.A. may change their mind on things according to its mandates from Congress. The main objective of anything we do---relative to the F.A.A.--is to meet or surpass "FAA safety objectives"; when FAA finds cause to put forward more "regulatory action" for safety matters, then the FAA will so act. Let's so be so that hang gliders are not mixed with collapsing soaring ultralight parachutes (PGs), so that review by the FAA will be with distinction between PG and the very different HG sector of machine.
