I just dug out my autographed copy of Richard Miller's book, "Without Visible Means of Support" in anticipation of next weekend's gathering at Dockweiler. I had forgotten that he had a section devoted to inflatable gliders. I opened the book at random and that section is what opened. 8-)

Charles Dennistoun Burney
Sir Charles Dennistoun Burney
CAUTION: Be ready to research with string: Lt Dennis Burney Or just Dennis Burney
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennistoun_Burney
Richard Miller passingly mentions this engineer on page 38 while Miller was featuring McDaniel for inflated machines.

Burney patented some on water kites (paravanes) with an eye to clearing mines that were tethered in waters, and similarly trawling otters that veer to keep fishing nets open.

I've not read the following book, but I am betting Richard Miller did read the book to get notes that he used on page 38.
The World, the Air and the Future Hardcover – 1929
by Charles Dennistoun Burney (Author)

The WorldCat shows some libraries have copies of Burney's 1929 book. For those in San Diego or Los Angeles, there are copies of the book available. UCSD, UCLA, Occidental College, and Claremont Colleges have a copy of the book.

Miller mentioned Taylor McDaniel and the inflated rubber glider. Here is some other reference for what Miller wrote about on p. 37 and following.

Richard M would have loved that site! He told me that he was always fascinated by truss structures because you could get so much strength for so little weight. Hence the design of the Conduit Condor. Never mind all of the drag those trusses must have created. However, it had a better glide than any other glider present on that "day one".
