I just dug out my autographed copy of Richard Miller's book, "Without Visible Means of Support" in anticipation of next weekend's gathering at Dockweiler. I had forgotten that he had a section devoted to inflatable gliders. I opened the book at random and that section is what opened.

Richard Miller passingly mentions this engineer on page 38 while Miller was featuring McDaniel for inflated machines.

Burney patented some on water kites (paravanes) with an eye to clearing mines that were tethered in waters, and similarly trawling otters that veer to keep fishing nets open.

I've not read the following book, but I am betting Richard Miller did read the book to get notes that he used on page 38.

Richard M would have loved that site! He told me that he was always fascinated by truss structures because you could get so much strength for so little weight. Hence the design of the Conduit Condor. Never mind all of the drag those trusses must have created. However, it had a better glide than any other glider present on that "day one".
