Assisting other pilots on launch at Torrey is one of the things I can no longer do there since my kangaroo court expulsion.

I made a point of regularly offering my assistance to walk with pilots to launch and provide wire assistance on launch. I know that hang glider pilots tend to be rugged individualists and are not always likely to bother anyone to ask for help. I always felt that by willingly offering help to each other we could put safety above "macho" pride. Yet USHPA now prohibits me from doing that because - in Director Alan Crouse's words - they didn't like that I could say I was a member of USHPA. Is it any wonder that they ended up losing their insurance?

"Takeoff" has become a full-fledged verb. (Harry will like this.) :lol:

Also, I've been examining hang gliding incidents and fatalities over the years. It seems to me, that when the USHGA allowed in paragliding, the emphasis on safety gradually became diluted and hang gliding suffered. I daresay many dozens of hang glider pilots have died as an indirect result of this loss of focus.

This is all very sad. If you go back to the USHGA mission statement, you will see the flaw that led to the meltdown. The USHGA felt its mission was to promote ALL freeflight - not just hang gliding. Fine, if you have infinite resources. But in the real world, hang gliding suffered.

BobK's expulsion is an illustration of how the cancer in USHPA has become malignant.

noun "takeoff";
verb "take off"

Okay. I stand corrected. You're right. Even the Oxford English Dictionary agrees.
"His takeoff took off the toucan's toupee, so the toucan was unable to take off from the takeoff ramp in a timely manner."
