A hang glider pilot would not have broken his back landing here.
Hang gliders have superior penetration and can choose to land in safer areas that paragliders cannot reach when strong winds or strong sink is encountered.

Hang glider pilots kill themselves by pilot error. This can be prevented through training.
Paragliders kill their operators suddenly and unexpectedly by chance.
If this could be prevented, I wouldn't be seeing 120 PG deaths in 2003 and 120 PG deaths in 2015.
My advice for soaring parachutists is the same as it was in 2008.
Get an airframe before you are maimed, crippled or killed.

Funny as it seems, some of the crashes in this collection were fatalities.

Owind Halvorsen from Norway. Fatal. If he'd flown a hang glider, he'd be fine.

Paragliders deliver a lot of misery.
It's especially hard when someone with every reason to know better, doesn't.
That's why all biwingual pilots are on my short list.

I wonder how many die-wingual pilots have lost their lives on hang gliders as opposed to collapsible canopies? Is there a stat for that?

I'd guess that the "die" part biases the PG side of the equation. :?:
