Possible Future Hang Glider Design Ideas!

Postby wingspan33 » Sun Apr 17, 2016 1:45 pm

Hello Folks,

Over on the "What Makes Hang Gliders Unique" thread there have been a number of posts about what would make hang gliders even MORE unique (and improved, hopefully!). I'll copy some or all of those posts from over there, but I can't start doing that right now. So, if you posted to the other thread and would like to, please go right ahead and copy and paste your thought(s) and idea(s) over here.

I'd love to see this become a (kind of) online "Think Tank" for future hang glider design. As they say: Two heads are better than one. If so, then a whole bunch of heads should be even better than two!

As for me, I've been having ideas to improve your everyday hang glider since about 1980. So I probably have a few dozen ideas that I could share here.

So, . . . If you have an idea, post it. If you don't, then start thinking! :wtf:  . . . .  :salute:

PS - Sketches or otherwise rendered images would be a real plus to add to a (maybe complex?) written description!

The STARS system on the P&M GTR uses a linkage to the sprogs that provides a form of wing warping to augment the weight shift control.

Below in quote "height shift" is a typo. It was supposed to be weight shift.

On my other laptop I have a drawing of an idea that I came up with that would attach to a sprog cable that would twist the cable shortening it to raise the sprog. This would be accomplished with height shift to raise the sprog thus raising the trailing edge to help with a turn. To offset any yaw a vertical stabilizer would also be used.

The sprog cable would have an Aluminum 3/16" Diam. by 18" long round stock rod attached along side of the sprog cable by means of two copper electrical split bolts.

One split bolt would attach to the sprog cable at midway on the rod. The other split bolt would attach the end of the rod to the sprog cable.

At the free end of the rod a control cord would be fastened.

Pulling on the cord would make the center rod split bolt pull while the other split bolt at the end of the rod would push toward the wing tip.

The force would move the sprog cable out of a straight position and raise the sprog tube.

The raised sprog tube would raise the transverse batten raising the two battens above the transverse batten.

This would cause the wing tip to drop which is what the weight shifted pilot was also doing. Trying to drop that wingtip.

Very Cool. Question:
Would this be a place I could post gravitational theories and ideas for flying that do not involve wings?
My ideas are not Anti-gravitatiional ideas. My ideas involve inversing gravity to attain flight.
Harnessing gravity in a controllable manner to attain flight in line with Natural law instead of against.
An assumption most make is that we have already identified all the natural laws of the universe.....yeah, right.

There is pottery from mexico that is 20,000 years old that show etchings of people in space suits and space craft visiting mexico long before it was Mexico.
Whatever species is depicted in those carvings or sketches were subject to the same laws of the universe as we are subject to.
I have two no-BS friends that have seen UFOs....
Both sightings describe an object hovering in the sky at very low altitude that made no noise whatsoever.
No noise?......How is that accomplished?
There was also no foreward movement to make use of aerodynamics. Both of these objects were observed in hover mode with no noise being emitted.
No loud rocket engines fighting Gravity. totally quiet.
I have a theory of inversing Gravity in the same manner as light is inversed and images are inversed via a prism or crystal.
Is this a place I can share such theories?
I do not believe we fully understand Gravity.
There are many Gravitational theories....all of them theories, nothing more.
There is the W-wave theory presented by Wagner research in oregon you may not be aware of.
http://gravityresearchfoundation.org/pd ... wagner.pdf

Then there is this experiment that many have tried to solve the mystery of. I have read several explanations and I am satisfied by the rods explanation presented in this video. I am only posting this as an example of a mystery that required solving when an odd effect was noticed and that we did not solve the mystery until the odd effect was noticed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ1-4DVLSZ0

So, in like manner, I have studied the sketchings on Pottery and noticed an effect that requires an explanation.
I have also listened to sightings from friends i trust to speak truthfully and I have noticed an effect that requires an explanatiion.
The effect is.... a large object that remains airborne without making any noise and without any forward airspeed.
If an explanation is finally arrived at will we be able to fly without wings?
I am looking at archaeological evidence that says yes we will.

would this be the proper thread to post experiments and ideas based on a hypothesis there are laws of nature yet to be discovered by which fight without wings, according to archaeological artifacts, has already been achieved by other residents in our universe?...

I have an intuitional hunch gravitational inversement is extremely simple. I have an intuitional hunch that once we finally understand ALL the laws that govern our universe we will sit back and laugh they are so simple.

Thank you for that Link Rick! Bookmarked it. Cant wait to go through all the observations others are making concerning gravity and light.
From my observations there is a connection between gravity and Light and the ability of a particular spectrum of light to inverse gravity.
One of the UFOs I mentioned above may have been quite large by observing the size of its zipper. Like a couple miles long. The ship was not actually observed so that may is an assumption.
My friend drove me out into the black rock desert in Nevada desert where he observed the following event as a kid with his dad. They were both hang pilots and had been landsailing at night under a full moon in the black rock desert(where they hold the burning man festival each year ) when it happened.
The wind suddenly stopped and they coasted to a standstill in their land sailors.
they got out and looked around and behind them was a Wall of light coming down from a zipper of light in the sky about two miles long and 2,500 feet AGL by his estimates. My friend pointed to one mountain and said....it ran all the way from THAT mountain over there to THAT mountain over there..... (about a two mile distance)
The wall of light effectively blocked the wind and as they both watched a reddish dust began rising up from the ground via the light and up to the zipper of light 2,500 agl.
This may have been some sort of refueling stop but regardless of the purpose. The important observation was my friend saw some form of matter ( reddish dust) defying gravity in response to a wall of LIGHT of some sort.
Perhaps a tractor beam of some sort but I dont think so.
Whatever was suspending a ship of some sort, emitting no noise whatsoever, was not a tractor beam.
Whatever technology was being used to suspend the ship, if I possessed such technology, I would also use to harvest a needed material from the earth if that was my intention.
My friend says he and his dad could not see a ship of any sort, only the two mile long zipper of light, a wall of light that reached form that zipper down to the ground, the reddish dust rising up in response to this light, and the total blockage of wind created by that wall of light.
Beyond the zipper of light all the stars in the sky were quite visible, as if no ship was there.
When the mining operation was over (if it was a mining operation) the wall of light retracted back up to the zipper of light and the zipper closed up and then, Nothing......not one sound was heard and nothing else was observed except the wind kicked back in again. The wall of light had definitely been blocking the wind.

The relationship between matter, Music, and math is already known to be inseparable. I am proceeding with a hypothesis that the relationship between Matter, Light, and gravity is also inseparable.

NOw that I have typed this all out I realize this thread should be reserved for what the the title of this thread says it is for.....a possible future hang glider Design......how fun!
......Thanks again for the link Rick....RS

Oh.. an important part of the above story. My friend, who was only about 16 when this happened, was immediately instructed by his father to not say anything. To just observe, then afterwards write down all observations and they would compare notes later. My friends Dad was the scientific type and wanted to eliminate the possibility he was hallucinating or what he was seeing was a construct of his imagination.
When they compared notes afterward they had both observed exactly the same things.

Reluctant sparrow,

If you are able to reverse gravity in some way all hang gliding will cease as we need gravity to glide. It is our power system and without it there is no gliding.

Tony

p.s. without gravity we also lose the atmosphere so maybe not such a good idea.

it would only be a localized inversion to lift one craft. Not going to lose the atmosphere unless the government gets a hold of it. Also there would be separate inversion devices at each end of the craft whose angles could be altered. These would be the controls of the craft. tip the angle of one device while enhancing its inversion rate and forward propulsion would be achieved using gravity as the propulsion force......but yes.....of no use in hang gliding ...agreed...except...here is an idea.....we could install an inversion device in each end of our keel to achieve neutral buoyancy, then take off our sails.....(cuz we dont need em anymore)
We could still do comps and such....pull on the vg to the rear device to provide forward propulsion
we would be kinda like the sliding boulders of Death Valley...just kinda sliding around the sky like a hockey puck on sheets of thin ice (which is what some have proven is a partial cause of the mysterious sliding boulders of racetrack Playa in Death Valley.....heres the link:
http://www.livescience.com/47585-death- ... rocks.html

these scientists admit, however, if you read that article very carefully, that there are still a couple of unexplained things the thin ice observations do not account for....
1. the Larger boulders that leave obvious trails were not observed moving at all during the observed movements of the smaller rocks around them....and
2. some rocks that have left obvious trails have simply disappeared....no rock or fragments of rock are found at the end of an obvious trail.

Everyone is looking for a natural explanation of course.
but Perhaps the admittedly wild story I shared above IS the natural explanation?

The Black rock desert where the large UFO was observed mining materials also has sliding rock trails.....moving boulders.....in the exact same area the UFO was observed.....

Perhaps during the mining episode all rocks in that vicinity are levitated to allow the more desirable material to work its way through the other particles of matter?
During that time all those boulders would be suspended in space and easily wind driven.

Okay...its an admittedly bizarre idea...but only to our way of thinking.

If I was one of those aliens where such technology is taught in kindergarten I would be reading the minds of humans who have observed the tracks left by boulders during my recent mining activity and think....whew....those morons still think it was the wind moving those boulders on thin sheets of ice....ha!
What they dont know is saw them setting up for an experiment and I did my mining activity when the ground froze, ON PURPOSE, to lead them to an errant conclusion.
The humans will think they have solved the mystery and they will still think they will cling to the answer they have found even though the larger boulders did not move.
they will still cling to the answer they have found even though I took a couple of the boulders home with me, thus leaving behind a trail from a boulder but no boulder........LOL

Scott I think it would be a good idea to start over with a thread named The Possible Near Future Hang Glider Design Ideas.
However I do have a link to add to where the thread has evolved to:
